How to physically reduce fever in adults

Although adults have better immunity, fever cannot be ruled out. The reasons for fever in adults are relatively complicated. When people have a fever and there is no medicine, physical cooling is a very good choice. There are many methods of physical cooling, and it also depends on the severity of the adult's fever. So how can adults reduce fever physically?

1. Cold compress

It is done by using cold to lower the body temperature of the whole body or a certain part. Generally, cold compress on the head is the most commonly used. Use rubber cloth or plastic film to make a pocket the size of a hand, fill it with well water or small ice cubes, and place the small bag on the patient's forehead, the blood vessels in the neck, the armpits, and the blood vessels at the base of the thigh. At the beginning of cold compress, local blood vessels contract, followed by blood vessel dilation, and heat is dissipated through conduction, which can achieve the purpose of cooling. If conditions permit, you can sew a hat-shaped ice pack, fill it with well water or fine ice cubes, and wear it on the patient's head.

2. Alcohol bath

25% to 50% alcohol can be used for rubbing bath. If there is no alcohol, you can mix white wine with half cold boiled water for sponge bath. Because alcohol evaporates quickly, it can quickly take away the heat from the skin and achieve the purpose of cooling down. When sponging, use a towel to wipe alcohol on the patient's neck, armpits, groin, chest, limbs, etc. to dilate the skin blood vessels and accelerate heat dissipation. If the alcohol concentration is too high and it evaporates too quickly, the blood vessels in the skin will constrict, affecting heat dissipation. The alcohol preparation method is as follows: 100 ml of 95% alcohol, add 200 ml of water, and then you can use it. The patient should be covered with a blanket at all times during alcohol bathing. Use a rectal thermometer to measure the body temperature about half an hour after the bath. If the body temperature does not drop, the patient should be sent to the hospital for further treatment.

3. Drink warm water

To deal with fever, the most effective physical cooling method is to drink water. It is not suitable to drink cold water. Warm boiled water of a certain temperature is most suitable. First, drink water to replenish body fluids. Water has a high specific heat and has a certain effect on cooling down when the body is sufficiently hydrated. The second is to promote sweating, which can help the body dissipate heat. Of course, if the fever is caused by a cold, making a cup of cold medicine may be of some help.
