How to treat termites in a house

More and more young people are buying their first home. For the first decoration of a new house, in addition to considering the interior design and ease of use, you should also consider the prevention of termites, especially in the humid southern region. So when we are renovating, how should we explain our termite prevention plan to the decoration and construction team? You can refer to the points I mentioned so that you can prevent termites during decoration without suffering any loss.

1. Prevent termites from crawling into the house. When laying the foundation of a building, it is necessary to carry out termite prevention treatment on the foundation. As long as it is handled properly, termites will generally not invade the foundation.

2. Prevent termites from flying into the house. Every year at the turn of spring and summer, a large number of "marriage flying ants" will fly to places with light, so people must remember to close doors, windows, sand windows, etc. (especially near mountains and reclaimed areas) in the evening of this season to prevent termites from flying in. If any "fish that slipped through the net" are found, measures must be taken quickly to eliminate them to prevent future troubles.

3. Before preventing ants from entering wood materials, treat 1-meter-high walls, wire ducts, wooden door frames, windows, floor cabinets, and wardrobe installation locations with chemicals to poison these frequently damaged locations and prevent ants from surviving in them, thus achieving a good anti-ant effect.

4. Treat decorative materials that may become food for termites during the renovation process with drugs. The process of drug treatment is actually the process of "poisoning" the material, making wooden products and other materials a "poison" that is difficult for termites to swallow (of course, it must be basically harmless to the human body), thereby achieving a good repellent effect.

Eliminate winged reproductive ants:

1. Killing Formosan white termites with light Most of them fly away in the evening. You can take advantage of the strong phototaxis of winged termites and use various light sources to lure and kill them.

2. Protect predatory natural enemies such as frogs, bats, etc.

3. Kill winged reproductive ants with drugs and poisons

Termite-proof design of buildings

1. Ventilation and moisture-proof measures should be taken for wooden components.

2. Design the indoor drainage well to keep the floor dry.

3. Care should be taken to reduce the use of wooden components in the basement, first, second and third floors.

4. Avoid using wooden components in areas near water sources such as bathrooms, kitchens, and water pipes.

5. Choose doors and windows with better sealing properties to prevent termites from flying in during the migration season.

6. Cables from underground to indoor areas should be placed in cable trenches and supported by brackets. The brackets must not be made of wood or plastic materials that are easily infested by insects.

7. The expansion joint cover surface of the building roof must be well drained to prevent rainwater from seeping in.

8. All wooden columns, wooden door frames, wooden stairs and other wooden components on the first floor of the basement building must not directly contact the soil. A cushion layer should be made to isolate the wooden components from the humid environment.

Choose wood that is resistant to termite attack, such as ironwood, jujube wood, etc.

Building physical barriers

1. Granite and basalt (sand and gravel) barrier method

2. Stainless steel metal mesh barrier method

Lay the metal mesh flat at the bottom and around the building, or at certain parts of the building where termites may invade.

Chemical barrier method

The more commonly used method at present is to use chemical pesticides and set up a protective layer to prevent termites from entering and causing harm.

Effect of repellent

Placing repellent substances in the ant trails where termites move can affect the gathering of termites and change the direction in which they forage.
