Why does it hurt when I press a lump on my body?

A lump is a pathological manifestation of body tissue, which is mainly manifested by the heaviness of the tissue. Its internal characteristics are manifestations of inflammation. Therefore, a lump is also a manifestation of tissue inflammation. Soft tissue exists almost everywhere in the human body. Therefore, various soft tissue diseases are also very common in the human body. For example, why does it hurt when you press a lump on your body? Let’s take a look at the explanation below, I hope you can understand it.

Most head lumps are benign

Most of the small lumps on the head are benign, including: lipoma, epidermal cyst, fibroma, hemangioma, schwannoma, etc. A preliminary judgment can be made based on the softness, mobility, color, pain, and texture of the lump.

Small lumps on the head are usually first examined by B-ultrasound, and treatment is mainly based on observation or surgical resection, and generally no follow-up treatment is required.

Location of neck lump

A lump found in the middle of the neck may be caused by the thyroid gland. Most thyroid lumps are benign lesions, including nodular goiter, thyroid adenoma, subacute thyroiditis, endemic goiter, etc. Malignant changes are thyroid cancer, but there is no need to panic. Even malignant thyroid tumors can be completely cured, and some people can even live with the tumor for their entire lives.

Place your hands on the Adam's apple (for men) or a position similar to the Adam's apple and swallow. If there is a lump in the thyroid gland, you can usually feel it. Thyroid lumps need to be diagnosed through B-ultrasound examination and blood test for seven thyroid function tests, or through a puncture biopsy. The main treatment is surgical resection, and malignant tumors may also require subsequent iodine-131 treatment.

Upper arm lumps pay attention to the armpit

The most important thing to pay attention to in arm lumps is the swollen lymph nodes in the armpit. Wang Donglin, director of the Department of Oncology at Chongqing Cancer Hospital, reminds that if swollen lymph nodes can be felt in the armpit, one should be alert to breast cancer metastasis or malignant lymphoma, which also require puncture or resection for pathological examination to clarify. Targeted treatment should be carried out based on a clear diagnosis.

The most common manifestation of lymphoma is painless enlarged lymph nodes, which are often found in the neck, axillae, and groin, as well as in the thoracic and abdominal lymph node areas. In addition to swollen lymph nodes, there may also be systemic symptoms such as hepatosplenomegaly, fever, night sweats, weight loss, and itching.
