Why is my neck swollen and uncomfortable?

Neck pain is very common, and this symptom is closely related to many factors. Therefore, you must pay attention to examination and treatment to avoid more severe symptoms. If your neck swells occasionally, you can give it a proper massage. However, if you have these symptoms for a long time, you should seek treatment as soon as possible. When treating the disease, we must also consider the cause and prescribe the right medicine for the disease. So why does your neck feel swollen and uncomfortable?

1. Neck soreness is a precursor to cervical spondylosis

The clinical manifestations of cervical spondylosis are varied. Among them, radiculopathy may occur when the nerve roots are stimulated or compressed. Its typical clinical symptoms are mainly pain or numbness in the occipital neck or neck and shoulders, which is continuous or paroxysmal and radiates to the upper limbs and fingers. It may be accompanied by a tingling or electric numbness. The pain and numbness may worsen when the neck moves or when coughing, sneezing or exerting a little more force. At the same time, there may also be atrophy, heaviness, soreness, weakness, and inflexibility of the upper limb muscles.

2. Conditioning

Pay attention to proper rest and avoid lack of sleep. Lack of sleep, excessive work stress and maintaining a fixed posture for a long time will lead to excessive tension of the nerves and muscles and intensify the symptoms of cervical spondylosis. In addition, change your pillow habits. The physiological curvature of the cervical spine (referred to as cervical curve) is not static. As age increases, the cervical spine will undergo degenerative changes and cervical bone hyperplasia, which will change the cervical curve and even make the cervical curve straight or hyperextension.

3. Massage

Stand behind the person with stiff neck, press lightly on the neck with one finger to find the most painful spot, then use one thumb to start from the top of the neck on that side and go all the way to the shoulder and back, massaging in turn, massage the most painful spot vigorously until you feel obvious soreness and swelling, which indicates that the force is enough, repeat this massage 2 to 3 times, then tap the massaged area with a hollow fist, and repeat 2 to 3 times. Repeating the above massage and tapping can quickly relax the spasmodic neck muscles and relieve pain.
