Is crying too much good for the eyes if you have amblyopia?

Pediatric amblyopia is a common childhood disease, but many children cannot express themselves, and discovering it late will delay the disease. As parents, we must be careful. Children with amblyopia should pay attention to daily care, in addition to psychological and physical care, and regular rehabilitation training. If they are well taken care of when they are young, it is possible to cure them. Children tend to cry, so is crying often harmful to amblyopia? Let's talk about it below.

In fact, tears can provide many health benefits. A study shows that the lysozyme contained in tears can kill 90%-95% of bacteria within 5 to 10 minutes. Crying can also improve your eyesight. Tears clean the surface of the eye, keeping it moist and washing away dust and debris, and improve visual function by lubricating the eyeball and eyelids.

When foreign matter enters the eye, tears will be secreted in large quantities, which can flush the foreign matter out of the eye and protect the eye from damage to the cornea or conjunctiva. Another important function of tears is their lubricating effect. Tears act as a lubricant between the eyeball and the eyelid, forming a 6- to 7-micron liquid film that allows the eye to move freely in the eye socket. In addition, the tear film formed by tears can make the surface of the cornea smoother, which is beneficial to reduce eye astigmatism. Tears also contain lysozyme, a very good bactericidal agent. When people cry, tears flow into the nasal cavity, and lysozyme can prevent the nasopharyngeal mucosa from drying out and becoming infected.

However, if a child cries frequently without being diagnosed with amblyopia, it is time to pay attention. Infants and young children cannot describe or cooperate with vision tests, so a cover test can be done to get a general idea of the vision of both eyes. Parents can intentionally cover one eye and let the child see things with one eye. If the child is very quiet after covering the eye, but cries or scratches the covering when the other eye is covered, it means that the child does not want the parents to cover the eye with good vision. This indicates that the vision of the uncovered eye is very poor, and the child should go to the hospital for examination as soon as possible and take necessary treatment.

Also pay attention to the child's visual training in daily life. Visual training is a long process, and the therapeutic effect is closely related to the degree and interest of children in the training methods. Therefore, it is crucial to choose a training method that children are more interested in. Traditional training methods generally have shortcomings such as single form and lack of interest, which makes it difficult for children to persist in training and affects the treatment effect. Children with amblyopia must wear appropriate refractive correction glasses. Amblyopia treatment cannot change the patient's refractive status; there is a critical period for visual development, and after the critical period, the treatment effect is very poor. Therefore, once a child is found to have amblyopia, training should be carried out immediately. Some parents postpone the training for fear of affecting their children's study or their own work. This is a very wrong idea. When the vision of the two eyes of an amblyopic patient is very different, the eye with better vision must be covered during visual training. Pay attention to the organic combination of home training and hospital training. Since amblyopia training must be conducted every day without interruption, it is impossible for every child to receive training in the hospital due to objective conditions. Appropriate training at home is necessary and is also an important guarantee for the treatment effect. Generally, in the initial stage of new training, the training is carried out directly in the hospital under the guidance of a doctor or optometrist. After the child has a better understanding of the training objectives and methods, the training can be transferred to the home for continuation. After amblyopia is cured, a follow-up period of one to two years is generally required. During the follow-up period, patients should go to the hospital for regular check-ups. Once you find that your vision is deteriorating, you can use the original training method for one week. Generally, your vision will improve. If there is no improvement, please seek further diagnosis and treatment from a relevant expert.
