Simple leaves are alternate or nearly opposite, leathery, ovate or oblong. 3-7 cm long, 2-5 cm wide, obtuse at apex, rounded or broadly cuneate at base, entire margin, sparse and inconspicuous veins; petiole 1-1.5 cm long, smooth, or covered with very short stellate hairs when young. The flowers are bisexual, 1 to 3 in number, forming axillary cymes, with a peduncle 4 to 10 mm long and covered with reddish-brown stellate hairs; the pedicels are shorter; there is one bracteole, ovate, very small; the calyx is nearly spherical, fused to the ovary, and covered with reddish-brown stellate hairs on the outside; the floral tube is narrowly tubular, 2 to 2.5 cm long, with 4 lobes at the apex, the lobes are purple-red, weak, slightly curved, and covered with reddish-brown stellate hairs on the outside; there are 4 stamens; there is 1 pistil, the style is slender, the stigma is flat-headed, and the ovary is inferior and spherical. The berries are oval with small wart-like protrusions. Flowering period is from August to October. The fruiting period is from September to October.

It often parasitizes on more than 50 species of plants in 29 families, including Moraceae, Theaceae, Fagaceae, Rutaceae, Rosaceae, and Fabaceae. Distributed in Fujian, Taiwan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Yunnan, Guizhou, Sichuan, Jiangxi and other places.

The plant of the same genus, the small-leaved mistletoe, is similar to the above species. The leaves are often opposite and obtuse at the tip; the flowers have a pedicel 1 to 2 mm long; each inflorescence has 2 to 5 flowers born on a single peduncle.
