What are the differences between black spots and moles?

Many people think that black spots and moles are the same thing, but the fact proves that this is not the case. From the perspective of symmetry, the two sides of moles are symmetrical, while black spots are irregular; from the perspective of boundaries, moles and the surrounding skin are very clear and smooth, while black spots are irregular, with a rough surface, and even liquid flowing out; in addition, the colors and sizes are also different.

1. Symmetry: The left and right sides of a mole are symmetrical, while malignant melanoma is asymmetrical and irregular.

2. Is the boundary clear? The boundary between the edge of a mole and the surrounding skin is very clear and smooth, while the edge of a malignant melanoma is irregular. Some are serrated, while others may present other irregular shapes. Some melanomas may also have a rough surface and scaly or flaky substances, and may even exude fluid or blood. This type of melanoma is prone to malignant lesions.

3. Color: Moles are generally brown, tan or black, while melanomas are brown, tan or black mixed with white, pink or bluish black. Blue is the worst, indicating a more serious condition. Generally speaking, blue-black or gray colors are likely to be nodular malignant melanoma.

4. Size: The diameter of an ordinary mole is generally less than five millimeters, while the diameter of a melanoma is larger than five millimeters.

5. In addition to distinguishing melanoma from moles in appearance, special attention should be paid to some moles that feel itchy and painful when pressed. If this type of mole continues to develop, it is likely to become ulcerative lesions. If you suspect that you have not a mole but melanoma, remember not to panic. Go to a regular hospital for diagnosis first. If it is confirmed to be melanoma, then actively cooperate with the treatment.

In general, melanoma and mole can be distinguished based on their symmetry, clear boundaries, color, size larger than five millimeters, and whether they feel itchy and painful when pressed. If you suspect that you have melanoma, don't panic. You must go to a regular hospital for diagnosis first. If it is confirmed to be melanoma, then actively cooperate with the doctor and receive treatment.
