Can paranoid personality disorder be cured?

There is often a type of people among the crowd who think highly of themselves, always overestimate their abilities, and like to blame others when they fail. They are boastful but extremely inferior in work and study. In family and marriage, they often doubt their partner and never trust other people's motives, always feeling that others want to harm them. These people actually have paranoid personalities. So can paranoid personality disorder be cured? Let’s take a look together.

1. What is paranoid personality

1. Paranoid personality is also called delusional personality. Their behavioral characteristics are often manifested as: extreme hypersensitivity, holding grudges against insults and injuries; stubborn and rigid thoughts and behaviors, sensitive and suspicious, narrow-minded; jealousy, etc. This type of people cannot analyze the situation correctly and objectively. When they encounter problems, they tend to be emotionally biased and subjective. 2. Characteristics of manifestations For the convenience of diagnosis, the "Chinese Classification and Diagnostic Criteria for Mental Disorders" (CCMD-2-R) describes the characteristics of paranoid personality as:

1. Widespread suspicion, often misinterpreting others' unintentional, non-malicious, or even friendly behavior as hostility or discrimination, or without sufficient basis, and suspecting that they will be exploited or harmed, so they are overly vigilant and defensive.

2. Interpret things around you as a "conspiracy" that does not conform to the actual situation and can become an overvalued concept.

3. Prone to morbid jealousy.

4. Being overly conceited, blaming others for setbacks or failures, and always believing that one is right.

5. Being jealous of others and unable to tolerate others’ mistakes.

6. Being argumentative and hostile out of touch with reality, and stubbornly pursuing one’s own irrational “rights” or interests.

7. Ignore or disbelieve objective evidence that is inconsistent with the patient’s beliefs. Therefore, it is difficult to change the patient's mind through reasoning or facts.

The patient's symptoms must meet at least three of the above items before he can be diagnosed with paranoid personality disorder.

3. Treatment Methods

1. Cognitive Enhancement

It is necessary to establish a trusting relationship with them, communicate emotions on the basis of mutual trust, fully introduce to them the nature, characteristics, harmfulness and correction methods of their own personality disorders, and make them consciously and voluntarily develop the desire to change their own personality defects. 2. The friendship training method encourages them to actively engage in friendship activities, learn to trust others in the process of making friends, and eliminate insecurity. 3. Self-therapy must first analyze one's own irrational ideas. Sometimes I show extreme behavior unconsciously. Afterwards, I should re-analyze my thoughts at that time, identify the irrational ideas at that time, and then reform them to prevent the same mistake next time. 4. Hostility correction method: Always remind yourself not to fall into the vortex of "hostility". Give yourself reminders and warnings in advance, and pay attention to corrections when dealing with others. This will significantly reduce hostility and strong emotional reactions; you must understand the basic principle that only by respecting others can you gain the respect of others.
