Urine test precautions

1. The container must be clean: generally use containers provided by the hospital.

2. Prevent contamination when collecting specimens: Women should avoid the menstrual period to prevent affecting the results. It is best to clean the genitals the day before the examination to prevent vaginal secretions from mixing in. If foreign objects fall into the sample during collection, re-sampling is required.

3. Collect midstream urine: Generally, the head and tail of urine should be discarded to avoid interference. If you have special requirements, the doctor will explain them.

4. Urine collection time: Generally, urine routine examination can be performed at any time, and it is best to use fresh urine that has just been collected. The first urine in the morning is the best sample for urine bacterial culture, urine sugar, urine protein, urine bile acid or pregnancy test.

5. The urine sample must be fresh. After the urine is left for a few hours, the white blood cells will be destroyed and the pyuria will disappear, glucose will be decomposed by bacteria, the casts will be destroyed, and the cells will be lysed, which will affect the accuracy of the test results.

6. Recent medication: If taking vitamin C may affect the test results, you should inform your doctor.

7. The amount of urine sent for examination: generally not less than 10 ml (at least half the volume of the urine cup).

8. In patients with urinary tract infection, pyuria is often intermittent, so it is advisable to conduct repeated examinations before drawing a conclusion.
