What's the matter with the white spots on the thumb

What are the white spots on the thumb? Our fingers are often exposed and can be easily injured. When you notice changes in the skin color of your hands, do not take it lightly, as it may be an early symptom of vitiligo. The incidence of vitiligo, a skin disease, is getting higher and higher, which seriously affects the normal life of every patient and also has a serious impact on their psychology. Let’s take a look at the detailed symptoms of vitiligo.

What is the cause of the white spot on the thumb?

Vitiligo on the hands is a depigmentation disease of the skin, mucous membranes and hair caused by a significant decrease or loss of melanocytes. The causes of vitiligo are quite complex, including autoimmune theory, melanocyte self-destruction theory, neurochemical factor theory, genetic factors, changes in trace elements and mental factors, microcirculation disorders, diet, emotions, tobacco and alcohol, drug stimulation, mechanical stimulation, surgery, trauma, and many other factors.

Symptoms of Vitiligo:

First of all, the main obvious characteristic of vitiligo is the appearance of white spots. In the early stage, the white spots are mostly local blocks, nearly circular, oval or irregular in shape. Some are point-like hypochromic spots with obvious boundaries; some are surrounded by pigment bands. In a few cases, the white spots are mixed with follicular pigment hyperplasia, which can increase, expand and merge with each other into island-like white spots. Except for the loss of pigment, the affected area does not shrink or desquamate. The hair on the white spots can lose pigment or even turn completely white. There are also cases where the hair remains unchanged for a long time.

Secondly, the number of white spots of vitiligo is uncertain. It can be limited to a certain part of the body or distributed in a certain nerve segment (or dermatome). It is very rare for the white spots to disappear on their own. In most cases, the number of white spots tends to gradually increase and expand. Adjacent white spots can merge with each other to form irregular large patches, spreading all over the body like a map. Sometimes normal skin remains in the white spots, which can be mistaken for pigmentation.

Finally, the color of the white spots of vitiligo in different patients will be different, and the skin texture of different white spots will also have its own characteristics. The skin of some white spots has varying degrees of scales attached, such as pityriasis simplex and tinea versicolor; the skin of some white spots is atrophied, such as post-ulcer depigmentation and discoid lupus erythematosus; the skin of some white spots is dry, sweatless, and hairless, such as leprosy white spots; in addition, the edges of different white spots also have their own characteristics.

Vitiligo on the hands is very easy to treat in the early stages, but it is not so easy to treat in the development stage. This is because in the early stages of vitiligo, the area is small and it has just formed. It is just a small white spot. Although vitiligo is highly diffusible, the cure rate is very high if it is treated early and in time. The development stage is relatively not so easy, but it is not impossible. As long as you have confidence, patience, and insist on cooperating with the doctor's treatment, it is also possible.
