Is it good to use grapefruit peel to make dishwashing liquid

Many people don’t know that you can use grapefruit peel to make dishwashing liquid. This is the healthiest, most environmentally friendly and greenest type of dishwashing liquid. First of all, it will not cause harm to your health. Secondly, some nutrients in the grapefruit peel have a good disinfecting effect. After all, some of the dishwashing liquids we usually use contain chemical substances. If they are not cleaned thoroughly, they will cause certain harm to the body.

Experimental procedures

Step 1: Prepare tools and materials

To make dishwashing liquid using grapefruit peel, you first need a grapefruit. The honey grapefruit, snow peak grapefruit, and red heart grapefruit that we usually buy in fruit stores will do. Note: The grapefruit used in the experiment was honey pomelo.

Also essential are a fruit knife, a chopping board, edible alkali, and a spoon. In addition, you will also need a sealable glass container. The capacity does not have to be too large because the glass container needs to be placed in the refrigerator after the production is completed. Note: I chose a glass jar with a capacity of 800ML.

Step 2: Processing grapefruit peel

Cut the grapefruit peel and use an appropriate amount of grapefruit peel according to the size of the container. The container used by the reporter during the experiment was 800ML, which was just enough to take a quarter of the grapefruit peel.

When processing grapefruit peel, wash the surface and remove some of the white pulp inside. The purpose of doing this is to ensure that the grapefruit peel remains in a block shape during the soaking process and does not scatter too many impurities. Next, cut the grapefruit peel into strips one to two centimeters thick so that the grapefruit peel can be fully soaked and release the active elements in it.

Step 3: Soak the grapefruit peel in a can

Put the grapefruit peel into a glass container, then add warm water below 40 degrees. It is important to note that you must use clean water and the water must cover the grapefruit peel.

The next step is the last step. Open the edible alkali and take about a spoonful, add it into the glass container, then cover it with a lid and shake it gently. The grapefruit peel dishwashing liquid will take shape. However, the grapefruit peel detergent cannot be used directly now. It needs to be stored in the refrigerator for 3 to 7 days so that the essential oil in the grapefruit peel can fully evaporate.

Experimental Results

Very reliable for degreasing

The reporter took out the grapefruit peel detergent after storing it for five days. The reporter found that, unlike when it was just made, the grapefruit peel dishwashing liquid had undergone a significant color change. The clean water added earlier already has the color of grapefruit peel.

Afterwards, the reporter used plates that were covered in grease after serving dishes to test the stain removal ability of the homemade grapefruit peel detergent. The reporter poured a little grapefruit peel detergent into the plate, then wiped the plate and rinsed it with water. It can be clearly seen that after a simple rinse, the dishes are as clean as before.

Then, the reporter poured an appropriate amount of grapefruit peel detergent into the sink as usual, and washed the dishes for the family of three after the meal. He found that the grease on the dishes and chopsticks was quickly washed away. After rinsing with clean water, the dishes and chopsticks are as clean as new, and the effect is no worse than that of detergent.
