Nowadays, more and more people choose traditional Chinese medicine to treat diseases. This is because Chinese herbal medicine is healthy and environmentally friendly, and has significant therapeutic effects. You must know that this is the essence left by our predecessors. Costus root is a traditional Chinese medicine, which is the dried root of the plant Costus root. It is used for indigestion, loss of appetite, promoting oxygen and stopping diarrhea, and strengthening the spleen and digestion. However, it should be said that it is not suitable for the elderly and children with weak bodies. In addition to what is mentioned above, what other functions and effects does costus root have? Let’s talk about this issue below. 1. Antispasmodic. It has a direct relaxing effect on intestinal spasms in guinea pigs. It has an antagonistic effect on smooth muscle spasms caused by acetylcholine and histamine. Its antispasmodic effect is similar to that of papaverine but weaker. 2. Promote qi circulation and relieve pain. It is good at regulating the middle and relieving stagnation, and is suitable for abdominal distension and pain, loss of appetite and vomiting caused by spleen and stomach qi stagnation. 3. Regulate Qi and soothe the liver. Used for side pain caused by liver and gallbladder qi stagnation. 4. Strengthen the spleen and eliminate stagnation. Can regulate gastrointestinal stagnation. Treat abdominal pain, diarrhea, and tenesmus. 5. Stop vomiting. This product is effective for vomiting and neurogenic hiccups caused by acute gastroenteritis. 6. Analgesia. It has obvious analgesic effect on gastrointestinal inflammation and ulcerative pain. 7. Antihypertensive effect. Intravenous injection of 50 mg/kg of lactone compounds, 35 mg/kg of costusin, 65 mg/kg of dihydrocostusin and 60 mg/kg of dihydrocostusin all had a hypotensive effect on anesthetized dogs; 10 mg/kg of the oil without the lactone part and 25 mg/kg of 12-methoxydihydrocostusin had a stronger hypotensive effect, mainly due to the direct vasodilation and cardiac inhibition effects. 8. Inhibit smooth muscle. The above ingredients at a concentration of 1-10 μg/ml have a relaxant effect on the isolated rabbit duodenum, and have an antagonistic effect on the isolated ileum of guinea pigs against acetylcholine, histamine and barium chloride. The relaxant effect of delactone oil is the strongest, and among the lactone components, dihydrocostus lactone has the strongest spasmolytic effect, which is similar to that of opium poppy. All parts have an antispasmolytic effect on bronchospasm caused by acetylcholine and histamine spray on guinea pigs. 9. Effects on the respiratory system. Guinea pig isolated trachea and lung perfusion experiments have shown that the extract, alcohol extract, volatile oil and total bioalkali of costusroot can counteract the spasm-inducing effects of histamine and acetylcholine on the trachea and bronchi. The total lactones, costus lactone, dihydrocostus lactone and other lactone components contained in the volatile oil as well as the lactone-free volatile oil can counteract the bronchoconstriction caused by histamine, acetylcholine and barium chloride, among which dihydrocostus lactone has the strongest effect. |
