What are the effects and functions of Datura?

Datura is a medicinal herb and should not be taken in excess, as it can easily cause poisoning and nervous system abnormalities. People often use Datura to make wine and drink it. Generally speaking, it is helpful to remove cold, diarrhea and dysentery. Drinking it regularly and in a fixed amount is very beneficial to the body, but it should not be consumed in excess to avoid adverse consequences. So what other benefits does Datura have when soaked in wine?

Relieve asthma, dispel wind and relieve pain. Treat asthma and cough, convulsions and epilepsy, wind-cold-dampness arthralgia, diarrhea, rectal prolapse, and trauma.

1. Treat rheumatoid arthritis

Use 1 part of Datura seeds and 4 parts of Psoralea corylifolia roots, dry them and grind them into powder. Make them into tablets, 0.3 grams per tablet. Take 1 to 2 tablets each time, 3 times a day. One course of treatment is 15 days, with a break of 5 to 7 days before the second course. During the treatment process, it can relieve joint pain, reduce joint swelling, and improve joint movement. It is ineffective for patients with joint ankylosis.

2. Used for mydriasis

Different concentrations of Datura seed extract and 1% homatropine were used for comparative observation. Through a mydriasis test of 24 cases, it was proved that the extract of Datura seeds has mydriatic and paralytic regulatory effects, but the appearance of mydriatic effect, the disappearance of pupillary light response and the time for regulatory recovery are slower than those of homatropine. There is no significant difference in the effects on intraocular pressure and the C value of aqueous humor outflow ease between the two. The recovery time after mydriasis with Datura seed extract is about half that of atropine. The appropriate concentration of the immersion solution is 50-60%.

Medicinal Prescriptions of Datura Seeds

1. Treatment of rectal prolapse : a pair of Datura flower seeds (with shell), sixteen rubber bowls. Crush the above ingredients, boil them in water for three to five times; add potassium nitrate and wash with the hot solution.

2. To treat injuries from falls : soak one qian of Datura seeds in six liang of wine. Take three grams each time.

3. To treat rheumatic pain : soak two drunken fairy peaches in one pound of sorghum wine. After ten days, drink alcohol once or twice a day, no more than one penny each time.
