What medicine is good for cardiomyopathy

The main symptoms of cardiomyopathy patients are that they will experience a significantly faster heartbeat, difficulty breathing, chest tightness and pain after activities. Generally, there are obvious abnormalities when doing an electrocardiogram. The effect of early treatment of cardiomyopathy is quite ideal, so if you feel unwell in your daily life, you must seek medical attention as soon as possible. So what medicine should you take after you get cardiomyopathy? This is the issue that patients are most concerned about. Let’s learn about the treatment methods for cardiomyopathy.

About 70% of patients with dilated cardiomyopathy die within 5 years after the onset of symptoms; the prognosis will further deteriorate as their myocardial walls become thinner and myocardial function declines. The presence of arrhythmias worsens the prognosis. Overall, male patients survive only half as long as female patients, and black patients survive only half as long as white patients. Death occurs suddenly in about 50% of patients, presumably due to severe arrhythmias.

Cardiomyopathy is a myocardial disease of unknown cause, which does not include specific cardiomyopathy with clear etiology or secondary to systemic disease. There are three types of cardiomyopathy: dilated cardiomyopathy, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, and restrictive cardiomyopathy. Among them, dilated cardiomyopathy and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy are more common. The cause of cardiomyopathy is still unknown.

(1) Dilated cardiomyopathy: Dilated cardiomyopathy may be related to certain viral factors. It is related to myocardial damage caused by abnormal metabolism of bacterial drug poisoning, among which viral myocarditis is considered to be the main cause.

(2) Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy may be related to autosomal dominant inheritance. About one-third of cases have a clear family history. Abnormal catecholamine metabolism, hypertension, and high-intensity exercise are secondary factors.

(3) Restrictive cardiomyopathy: characterized by endomyocardial fibrosis, myocardial stiffness, and impaired ventricular diastolic filling. The onset is slow, and early symptoms may include fever, fatigue, dizziness, shortness of breath, etc., and complete heart failure may occur in the late stage. Atrial fibrillation is also common, sometimes complicated by visceral embolism.

What medicine is good for cardiomyopathy?

1. Treating specific causes such as alcoholism and infection can prolong life. If alcoholism is the cause of cardiomyopathy, the patient should abstain from alcohol; if the patient's cardiomyopathy is caused by an infection, antibiotics should be used.

2. In patients with coronary heart disease, myocardial ischemia can lead to attacks of angina pectoris (a type of chest pain caused by heart disease). Treatment is with nitrates, beta-blockers, and calcium channel blockers. The latter two drugs reduce the force with which the heart contracts. Getting enough rest and sleep and avoiding stress can reduce the heart's oxygen consumption.

3. Blood clots can form on the myocardial wall of an enlarged heart, so anticoagulants are often used to prevent blood clot formation. Since most drugs for controlling arrhythmias have the side effect of inhibiting myocardial contractility to varying degrees, it is often recommended to start with a small dose and then increase the dose cautiously depending on the efficacy. Angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors are often used in the treatment of heart failure, usually with a diuretic. However, unless a specific cause can be found, the prognosis of heart failure in patients with DCM is not ideal. Because of this poor prognosis, most heart transplants performed today are for DCM.
