How should acute periodontitis be treated?

Periodontitis is a relatively common oral disease. Acute periodontitis is a common type of periodontitis. It develops rapidly and the patient will obviously feel obvious swelling and pain in the teeth. In severe cases, it will affect the patient's eating. For the treatment of acute periodontitis, the common method is to use medication, such as tetracycline, mouthwash, cetylpyridamole, etc. These drugs are used to treat periodontitis. The effect will be relatively fast and can promptly relieve the patient's pain and eliminate swelling. If there is no trend of relief, it is recommended to see a doctor in time for examination.

1. The first choice of drug for treating periodontal disease is tetracycline drugs. It is a broad-spectrum antibiotic. After entering the human body, it is widely distributed, has a strong affinity for bone tissue, and has an inhibitory effect on a variety of periodontal pathogens. Commonly used drugs for the treatment of periodontal disease are tetracycline, doxycycline and minocycline. Tetracycline is taken orally 250 mg each time, 4 times a day, and one course of treatment is 2 weeks. Or take minocycline 200 mg orally daily, 2 weeks as a course of treatment.

2. Mouthwash is one of the commonly used medicines for treating periodontal disease. Mouthwashes include 0.12% to 0.2% chlorhexidine solution (also known as chlorhexidine, a biguanide compound), 2 minutes each time, twice a day, for 2 weeks, as well as 2% saline solution, 1% hydrogen peroxide solution, 2% sodium bicarbonate solution, 1/5000 potassium permanganate solution, compound borax solution, aromatic mouthwash, etc., which can inhibit the deposition of plaque, reduce the number of bacteria in the mouth, control inflammation, and clean and disinfect the mouth, thereby achieving the purpose of curing periodontal disease.

3. Cetylpyridamole is a basic drug for the clinical treatment of periodontal disease. Also known as cetylpyridinium chloride, it is a cationic quaternary ammonium compound that can kill bacteria by interacting with negatively charged groups on bacterial cell walls. It has been reported that gargling with 0.05% cetylpyridamole solution can reduce the amount of plaque by 25% to 35%. Its antibacterial effect is not as strong as chlorhexidine, and its side effects are fewer than chlorhexidine. This ingredient is found in many commercially available mouthwashes.

4. Metronidazole (Flagyl) is one of the first choice drugs for the treatment of periodontal disease. It is currently the drug of choice for treating anaerobic infections and has a good effect on periodontal disease. What are the basic drugs of choice for treating periodontal disease? It is often used in combination with tetracycline, erythromycin, and spiramycin for better efficacy. Generally, 0.2 grams is taken at a time, 3 to 4 times a day, and one course of treatment is 7 to 10 days. It is contraindicated for use by pregnant and lactating women.

5. Spiramycin can also be used to treat periodontal disease. Macrolide antibiotics, after entering the blood circulation, are mainly distributed in gingival sulcus fluid, saliva, gums and jaws, and can effectively inhibit bacteria. They are effective in treating acute periodontal inflammation, periodontal disease, periodontal abscesses and bleeding. Generally, 0.2 grams is taken orally each time, 4 times a day, and one course of treatment is 5 to 7 days. The therapeutic effect can last for 3 to 6 months.

6. Roxithromycin also has a significant effect on the treatment of periodontal disease. It is a new generation of macrolide antibiotics, which is effective in treating acute periodontal abscess. Take orally 0.15 grams each time, twice a day.
