If a person's blood pressure is high for a long time, it will cause great harm to health. Patients will often feel tired, have headaches and dizziness for no reason, become nervous easily, have poor concentration, and in severe cases will become unconscious and have convulsions. Not only that, high blood pressure can also cause many other complications, such as myocardial infarction, kidney failure, etc. Therefore, it is necessary to strictly control blood pressure levels. Steps to correctly measure blood pressure using an electronic blood pressure monitor:

Before measuring blood pressure, it is best to expose your upper arm, and do not roll up your long sleeves to avoid compressing the blood vessels in your upper arm, which can cause inaccurate blood pressure readings.

Sit down, stretch your palms upward, elbows at heart level, arms at a 45° angle to the body, hands relaxed and not clenched;

Wrap the cuff evenly around the middle of your upper arm (not around the elbow). The lower edge of the cuff is about 1-2 cm away from the antecubital fossa. The cuff should be rolled so tightly that a finger can just be inserted. If it is wrapped too tightly, the measured blood pressure will be low; if it is wrapped too loosely, the measured blood pressure will be high. The rubber tube of the cuff should be placed on the brachial artery pulse point;

Don't talk or hold your breath when measuring your blood pressure; breathe naturally.

The blood pressure measurement should be completed in one go. If it is not completed, the cuff should be loosened, and the patient should rest for 2 to 3 minutes before measuring again.

If you find any abnormal blood pressure during blood pressure measurement, you should wait for a while and then measure again. The time interval between two measurements must not be less than 3 minutes, and the measured parts and body positions must be consistent.

When you start measuring blood pressure, you can measure the blood pressure in both arms. If the blood pressure in both arms is different, the blood pressure value in the left arm will usually be slightly higher than that in the right arm. The higher measurement data should be used when recording.

Patients with hypertension need to monitor their blood pressure regularly. It is best to measure it at a fixed time, location, and body position each time, and record the measured blood pressure values ​​for reference and self-health care.

Starting 5 to 10 minutes before measuring your blood pressure, you should keep calm and quiet your mind. Blood pressure values ​​measured during mental stress, emotional fluctuations, strenuous exercise and after activities are inaccurate.
