How does nerve damage heal?

Nerve damage basically occurs when people suffer the greatest impact, such as falling from a height or being in a car accident. This will cause irreversible damage to the nerves, especially brain nerve damage. Once this happens, there is no way to treat it. All treatments are only to relieve the patient's pain and improve the patient's quality of life to a certain extent. However, even some surgeries and even hormone drugs cannot restore the damaged nerves to their original functionality. Only some patients with relatively mild injuries may have relatively better injuries and can still live and work normally without causing too much impact.

Drug treatment:

(1) Dehydration drugs relieve intracranial pressure and neural edema. 150-200 ml of 20% mannitol is commonly used for intravenous drip, 1-2 times a day. (2) Glucocorticoid treatment protects the nerves. Dexamethasone 10 mg is usually given intravenously 1 to 2 times a day. (3) Drugs that dilate blood vessels and improve microcirculation include 10 mg of Nimotop, administered intravenously 1 to 2 times a day. Low molecular weight dextran 500ml intravenous drip 1 to 2 times a day. (4) Commonly used neurotrophic and metabolic drugs include energy mixture, cerebrolysin, GM1, nerve growth factor and mecobalamin. Methiconazole is administered by intravenous drip at a rate of 500 μg, 1 to 2 times a day. After 10 days, it can be taken orally at a rate of 0.5 mg, 3 times a day. The purpose of this treatment is to enhance the blood supply to the affected nerves, improve the blood supply to the nerve microcirculation, soften the scars and prevent nerve ischemic degeneration. Only by combining Chinese and Western medicine dialectical treatment, such as stimulating and activating nerves, and taking cubic medication can nerve function be restored and recovery can be achieved as soon as possible. Tip: If treatment is delayed beyond the treatment period, the affected nerves will suffer from ischemia and degeneration, and there will be no hope of recovery. There is only one chance and the time is very limited. Please be cautious.

(1) Relieve the pressure on the fracture ends. For nerve damage caused by limb fractures, the fracture should be repositioned and fixed first to relieve the pressure on the nerves from the fracture ends. If the nerve is not severed, it is expected to recover its function in 1 to 3 months. Otherwise, surgical exploration should be performed as soon as possible. Some nerves are embedded between the broken ends of the bones, such as fractures of the middle and lower parts of the humerus combined with radial nerve injury. In this case, surgery should be performed as soon as possible to avoid rupture of the nerve during manual reduction.

(ii) To prevent excessive stretching of paralyzed muscles, appropriate splints can be used to keep the paralyzed muscles in a relaxed position. For example, if the radial nerve is paralyzed, a suspension spring splint can be used, and if the foot is drop, an anti-drop brace can be used.
