What are the symptoms of ear neuralgia

Ear neuralgia is not just a symptom, but a common disease. Especially in today's society, more and more people are experiencing this condition. This is also related to the fact that people often wear headphones to listen to music and stay up late for a long time. During the attack, patients will not only feel nerve pain behind the ear, but also find that their skin becomes red. This is a series of symptoms caused by ear neuralgia, especially when eating. The pain is more severe. This is because the nerves in the ear area will be pulled during the chewing process, causing the patient to feel severe tingling, and generally it is paroxysmal pain and will recur.

Symptoms:

The typical manifestation is paroxysmal pain in the ear and temporal area on one side accompanied by skin flushing and sweating, and the attacks are often related to eating. The pain is paroxysmal burning pain, mainly located in the anterior wall and deep part of the external auditory canal, in front of the ear, mandibular joint and temporal area on one side. In severe cases, the pain may radiate to the mandible and neck on that side. The pain is often caused by eating activities, especially when eating irritating or hard foods, but it can also occur at night, in hot and stuffy air, or when you are overly excited. During an attack, there is often flushing and sweating of the skin in the distribution area of the auriculotemporal nerve, increased saliva secretion on that side, and increased pulsation of the superficial temporal artery. There is often significant tenderness between the external auditory canal and the mandibular joint process, and occasional pressure on this area can cause an attack of pain.

It is more common in young and middle-aged people, and women are more susceptible to the disease. The pain is mostly on one side or both sides, located in the occipital area and the back of the neck. The pain varies in severity, mostly moderate pain, and a few patients have severe pain, mostly cone-like or electric shock-like string pain, or knife-like paroxysmal pain or throbbing pain. Dull pain is also common and radiates to the top of the head and forehead.

Pain behind the ear is a common neurological disease that occurs in the facial nerve. Pain behind the ear is usually caused by viral invasion, physical compression or damage to the facial nerves, and is not contagious. The ear has a rich sensory nerve network and is also connected to the nerves of adjacent organs. Therefore, in addition to being a symptom of ear disease itself, ear pain may also be a reflex ear pain caused by diseases of adjacent organs.
