The meninges are a layer of membranous tissue that protects the brain. Although the meninges seem to have a single function, they are very important to people's health because they are also part of the brain and have the ability to store and process information. Therefore, if the meninges are diseased, it will cause more serious sequelae. For example, frustration, dizziness, etc. When the pressure on the meninges is high, they are prone to cancer and tumor growth. This is called meningioma. This tumor is malignant, extremely difficult to treat, and is more harmful, and can easily take the patient's life. Let’s take a look at what to do if meningioma is serious. Surgical resection Surgical removal of meningioma is the most effective treatment. With the development of microsurgical techniques, the surgical results of meningiomas have been continuously improved, allowing most patients to be cured. Radiation therapy The effect of complete resection of benign meningiomas is extremely good, but due to their growth location, approximately 17% to 50% of meningiomas cannot be completely resected, and a small number of malignant meningiomas cannot be completely resected either. The above two situations require radiotherapy after surgical resection. Malignant meningiomas and hemangiopericytic meningiomas are sensitive to radiotherapy and the effect is certain. However, there are still different opinions on whether radiotherapy is effective for general benign tumors. Other treatments Hormone therapy, molecular biology therapy, traditional Chinese medicine treatment, etc. (1) If a spinal fracture or spinal cord injury is suspected, provide immediate first aid as required for spinal fractures. (2) During transportation, hard beds, stretchers, and door panels should be used instead of soft beds. It is forbidden to carry the person on one person's back. It should be carried by 2 to 4 people to prevent aggravation of the injury to the spine and spinal cord. (3) When carrying the injured person, keep his lower limbs close together, his upper limbs close to his waist, and keep his body in a straight line. 6. When the chest, waist or abdomen are injured, a small pillow or piece of clothing should be placed under the waist during transportation. Disease prognosis: As with any tumor, if some tumor remains at the primary site after the first surgery for meningioma, tumor recurrence may occur. Surgical resection remains the preferred method for treating recurrent meningioma. Many studies have shown that radiotherapy is effective for meningiomas that cannot be completely removed, recurrent meningiomas that are inoperable, or certain special types of meningiomas. |
