What are the consequences of ankylosing spondylitis?

Disease is an important factor affecting people's lives. Disease causes physical disability, psychological trauma, etc. Moreover, there are many types of diseases in the human population and the harm is very great. Some diseases are more common, while others are very rare. For example, ankylosing spondylitis is a relatively rare disease. Let’s take a look at the consequences of suffering from ankylosing spondylitis.

Ankylosing spondylitis generally has an insidious onset and may not have any clinical symptoms in the early stages. Some patients may show mild systemic symptoms in the early stages, such as fatigue, weight loss, long-term or intermittent low fever, anorexia, mild anemia, etc. Severe cases may cause hunchback and deformity.

Ankylosing spondylitis site

1. Ankylosing spondylitis patients mainly experience inflammation and ossification of the lumbar, cervical, and thoracic spinal joints and ligaments, as well as the sacroiliac joints. Ankylosing spondylitis has an insidious onset and slow progression, causing long-term pain and suffering to patients. It also accumulates the threat of various diseases in the patient's body, causing enormous impact.

2. The harmfulness of ankylosing spondylitis cannot be ignored. It is especially important for patients who are already ill to maintain a good attitude. A depressed mood can also lead to slower circulation of organs throughout the body, decreased resistance, and easily cause other diseases.

3. Since ankylosing spondylitis is an autoimmune disease, it can invade multiple systems throughout the body and be accompanied by or cause various diseases in the heart, eyes, ears, lungs, nervous system, kidneys, etc.

4. After ankylosing spondylitis occurs, patients will experience lower back pain and morning stiffness, which will be relieved after activity. Sometimes they will be accompanied by low fever, fatigue, loss of appetite, weight loss and other symptoms. The pain is intermittent in the early stage of the disease, and will develop into continuous pain after accumulating over time. After the inflammatory pain disappears, the spine will become partially or completely stiff from bottom to top, forming a hunchback deformity. These are the hazards of ankylosing spondylitis.

Ankylosing Spondylitis Prevention

1. Avoid heavy weight bearing as it may aggravate the disease. Avoid staying in one position for long periods of time. If you sit for a long time, get up and move around for at least ten minutes every hour. Do not use back restraints (which reduce mobility and worsen spondylitis).

2. Avoid using pillows and do not sleep on a soft bed. It is best to sleep lying flat on your back with your back upright.

3. If you feel a stiff back when you wake up in the morning, you can take a hot bath to improve it. Hot compresses are also partially effective in relieving local pain. Don't smoke to avoid lung damage.

4. Be careful to prevent external injuries, always wear a seat belt when driving, and try not to ride a motor vehicle.

5. In cold and humid seasons, you should be more careful about the recurrence of symptoms.

6. Gastrointestinal and urinary tract infections often induce spondylitis, so you should pay attention to food hygiene, drink more boiled water, eat more vegetables and fruits, and avoid holding urine and constipation.

7. Pay attention to whether other family members have symptoms of ankylosing spondylitis, such as lower back pain, morning stiffness, etc. If so, seek medical attention as soon as possible.
