How is a wrist sprain treated?

How is a wrist sprain treated?

We often use our hands in our daily lives, so sprains are inevitable. For example, when playing basketball, physical contact between teammates may cause a wrist sprain. However, because the injury is not obvious in the early stages of a sprain, many people do not pay attention to it. However, a small sprain may cause great damage to the wrist. Here are some tips for dealing with a sprained wrist.

Emergency measures for a sprained wrist

1. Rest

If your wrist is not sprained, you should stop exercising immediately and never put weight on the injured joint.

2. Cold compress

Ice or other cold compresses can help reduce pain and swelling because lowering the temperature reduces blood circulation and reduces swelling. The duration of cold compress should be 15 to 20 minutes each time, three to four times a day.

3. Oppression

Applying pressure to the injured area with a bandage or other methods can reduce bleeding and bruising. The tightness of the bandage should be moderate, so that you can feel the pressure on the injured area but not so tight that your extremities become numb or lack blood flow.

4. Elevate the affected limb

The main purpose of elevating the affected limb is to reduce swelling and improve blood flow.

5. Topical medication treatment.

You can apply ointment externally on the waist to assist the injured wrist in repairing damaged tissue and enhancing the body's activity function, thereby playing a role in recovery.

6. Gardenia and frankincense external application therapy.

Ingredients: 50 grams each of gardenia and frankincense. Grind the two ingredients into powder. Put an appropriate amount of rice wine in a pot and heat it. Stir it into a paste and apply it on the injured wrist. Finally, bandage it with gauze. It can play a good role in reducing swelling and relieving pain.

Later treatment methods

1. External application of Huoxue San and Jiegu San is the best choice.

2. Take Shujin Huoxue Decoction internally

3. Relax muscles and tendons, promote blood circulation and invigorate qi

Note:

1. Swelling continues to occur

If swelling continues, immediately find ice cubes and apply pressure (pressure means a slightly tighter bandage, but you must always pay attention to the skin color of the fingertips and compare it with the normal color of the fingertips. If it is a different color, remove the bandage immediately). Half an hour is enough in winter!

4. Swelling does not subside

If there is persistent redness, swelling, pain, or deformation, you must seek medical attention as soon as possible.

5. Do not move the damaged joint

During the recovery period, do not work with the injured hand or do any physical work to prevent re-injury.

6. Do some simple exercises

You can exercise your palms and wrists appropriately every day, and you can also do some care and physical therapy.

7. Avoid Injuries

Be sure to do warm-up exercises before any activity to prevent injuries (most injuries are caused by not doing warm-up exercises or not doing them seriously).
