What are the early symptoms of spondylitis

What are the early symptoms of spondylitis

Spondylitis is a relatively serious disease. After suffering from spondylitis, patients are prone to spinal deformity and ankylosing symptoms. Will this cause radiating pain? Some patients will experience pain in the sternocostal joints or near the costovertebral joints, and may also cause peripheral arthritis. After suffering from spondylitis, it is necessary to carry out anti-inflammatory treatment in time, and emphasize regular care and health care.

1. Chronic inflammatory low back pain is usually the earliest manifestation

It is characterized by insidious onset, pain lasting more than three months, worsening after rest, and improvement after exercise. Patients often experience morning stiffness and even wake up in the middle of the night due to stiffness and pain.

2. Radiating pain

Usually the earliest site of the disease is the sacroiliac joint. The pain can radiate to the buttocks and the back of the thigh, and sometimes to the outside or front of the thigh. It usually does not reach below the knee. As the disease progresses, the inflammation gradually spreads to the lumbar spine and thoracic spine, and finally the cervical spine. The range of motion of the spine deteriorates. In the early stage, the backward and lateral bending are limited, and in the late stage, the forward bending is also limited.

3. Patients often experience pain near the sternocostal joints or costovertebral joints

It is mainly an inflammation of the tendon attachment, which feels similar to pleural pain. The pain increases when inhaling, and there is local tenderness. It needs to be differentiated from pleurisy. This inflammation can eventually lead to a decrease in the ability of the chest cavity to expand, making the patient's breathing mainly completed by the rise and fall of the diaphragm.

4. Some patients may have peripheral arthritis

The hip joint is the most commonly affected, and other common joints are the shoulder joint, knee joint, ankle joint, etc. About a quarter of patients have hip arthritis, which can cause limited joint movement, difficulty squatting, limping, and unequal foot length in severe cases.

5. Diseases at the junctions where tendons and ligaments attach to bones

Achilles tendonitis, which is common in the heel, and plantar fasciitis, which is common in the sole of the foot, can cause redness, swelling, heat and pain, and may even affect walking. The tendon attachment points near the pelvis are also often inflamed, causing local tenderness.

6. Juvenile ankylosing spondylitis with onset before the age of 16

It often starts with peripheral arthritis, especially Achilles tendonitis or plantar fasciitis of the knee, hip, ankle, or posterior heel. Typical symptoms of spondyloarthritis gradually appear after a few years. In these patients, the peripheral arthritis is usually more severe.
