What should I pay attention to in desensitization therapy

For people with allergies, desensitization treatment is really necessary, especially for those with allergic rhinitis, skin allergies, allergic asthma and other similar diseases. Desensitization treatment can choose subcutaneous injection desensitization and sublingual desensitization, because these two desensitization methods have obvious effects. Allergen testing is required before desensitization. Desensitization can only be completed after the allergen is found. So what should we pay attention to during desensitization treatment?

1. Lasts for a long time.

Sublingual desensitization therapy generally lasts for two years, and subcutaneous injection desensitization therapy lasts at least three years. Subcutaneous desensitization therapy is administered once a week for the first six months, then once every two weeks, and finally once a month.

2. Intolerance to drug concentration.

Sublingual desensitization is a daily medication and intolerance is relatively mild. Subcutaneous desensitization is the injection of allergens into the patient's body, so there may be a systemic reaction. The patient should stay in the hospital for observation half an hour after the injection so that emergency situations such as shortness of breath, redness, swelling and itching of the skin can be dealt with as soon as possible.

3. During desensitization treatment.

It is still necessary to cooperate with drug treatment, regular outpatient follow-up, and adjust the drug dosage. For some patients whose condition remains stable, they only need immediate injection treatment.

4. The effect is slow to take effect.

Since desensitization treatment needs to be continued for at least two years, it usually takes 3-9 months to take effect.

5. If the serum specific IgE is negative, or IgE is positive but there is no relevant history of allergies, desensitization treatment cannot be performed. Desensitization therapy is more effective in patients with mild asthma than in those with moderate to severe asthma. If FEV1 is ≤70% after asthma drug treatment, desensitization is not possible (indicating that the airway has been irreversibly damaged). Sublingual desensitization can be used in children older than 4 years.
