What's the matter with low lymphocytes

Lymphocytes are a type of white blood cell that are related to the health of the human body. Many clinical examinations require the examination of lymphocytes, and the reference value of lymphocytes may also be related to the disease. If the lymphocyte count is low, the patient must pay attention to it. The reasons for low lymphocyte count are more complicated. So what exactly is going on with low lymphocyte count?

1. Viral or bacterial infection

Low levels of lymphocytes and eosinophils are a sign of low immunity, which is not caused by viral or bacterial infection. Viral or bacterial infections often cause these two types of cells to be high rather than low. Considering that oral antibiotics are ineffective for the patient, it is recommended that the patient stop taking antibiotics. Judging from the description, the information is not clear enough to make a diagnosis. It is recommended to go to the neurology department for a physical examination to rule out the possibility of meningitis.

2. Significance

Under normal physiological conditions, the lymphocyte ratio is 20%-40%. The detection of lymphocytes falls within the scope of routine clinical blood tests. It detects, counts and classifies white blood cells, so as to observe the morphology and ratio of lymphocytes.

3. Others

An increase in lymphocytes is mainly seen in infectious diseases. And mainly, they are viral infections, such as measles, chickenpox, mumps, viral hepatitis, etc. It can also be seen in whooping cough, or in tuberculosis and syphilis. In addition, an increase in lymphocytes may also occur in tumor diseases, during the recovery period of acute infectious diseases, or after organ transplantation. If there is a decrease in lymphocytes, it is mainly due to treatment with cortical hormones, alkylating agents, antilymphocyte globulin, etc. As well as radiation damage, immunodeficiency disease and immunoglobulin deficiency can all cause a decrease in lymphocytes.
