How long will vitiligo take to spread?

Vitiligo is a relatively common skin disease. Although it is not contagious, it will spread to the patient if not treated in time. It usually takes 3-6 months, and the specific time depends on the patient's physical condition. Experts say that in order to reduce the incidence of vitiligo, we must reduce the intake of harmful foods, strengthen our own rest, maintain an optimistic mood, etc. in daily life.

1. How long will vitiligo spread?

Regarding how long it usually takes for vitiligo to spread, skin experts say that the spread of vitiligo usually takes about 3-6 months. Since everyone's physique is different, the onset time will definitely be different. In clinical practice, some patients with vitiligo do not experience worsening of white spots many years after onset of the disease, while for some patients, white spots spread rapidly just two months after onset of the disease. Therefore, there is no specific time period for the spread of white spots, which is related to personal constitution.

2. Daily care of vitiligo

1. Reduce the intake of harmful foods. Vegetables and fruits should be rinsed repeatedly with clean water before eating. If time permits, soak them in clean water for 15 to 30 minutes after washing, and then rinsed before eating to reduce harmful residues such as pesticides. Teenagers should wash and peel fruits before eating them, and avoid eating foods that contain excessive heavy metal salts, such as popcorn processed in lead containers.

2. Strengthen your own recuperation and maintain an optimistic mood. It is important to maintain an optimistic and cheerful mental state and overcome all unnecessary mental worries, because these negative mental states will cause thymus degeneration and immune lymphocyte maturation disorders through endocrine effects, thereby affecting the body's immune defense function. Vitiligo will easily spread, bringing difficulties to treatment.

3. Get enough sun. The ultraviolet rays in sunlight can promote the metabolism of melanin, so proper sun exposure can have a certain therapeutic effect on vitiligo. But in the hot summer, the ultraviolet rays in the sunlight can inhibit the metabolism of melanin and are not conducive to the synthesis of melanin, so it should be stopped.

4. Reduce contact with harmful substances. Minimize exposure to harmful chemicals, paints, coatings, and heavy metal salts; workers who frequently come into contact with them must take labor protection measures. The materials for house decoration should be selected according to national standards. It is best to ventilate the house for more than three months after the decoration is completed before moving in. Regular ventilation should be maintained after moving in, and environmental monitoring should be carried out if conditions permit.
