Headache and sudden fainting

Headache and sudden fainting

Headache is a symptom of many diseases. Some people do not take headache seriously and usually choose to take painkillers to solve it. Some people don't take headaches seriously, and as a result they suddenly faint due to headaches. Only then do people realize that headaches can be very serious. There are many reasons for fainting due to headache. Below I will introduce to you the specific reasons.

1. Reflex syncope. This is the number one cause of syncope, which mainly includes five situations.

1. Vascular syncope: It is caused by increased vagus nerve excitability and decreased sympathetic nerve excitability, which leads to a slower heart rate, decreased peripheral blood volume, and decreased cardiac output. When the patient is in an upright position, the brain lacks sufficient blood supply, leading to a sudden loss of consciousness. Its characteristics are: it is more common in young people, generally without a history of heart disease; standing for long periods of time and emotional stress are often the inducing factors. Common symptoms include: hypotension, bradycardia, nausea, pale complexion, sweating, etc.; brief loss of consciousness lasting about 30 to 120 seconds, during which brief myoclonus may occur.

2. Postural hypotension: It is often caused by standing up suddenly from squatting, lying or sitting position.

3. Carotid sinus syncope: Due to the increased sensitivity of the carotid artery pressure receptors, syncope may occur when the neck is massaged, the head is turned suddenly, or the collar is too tight. At this time, it is necessary to identify whether there is severe stenosis of the carotid artery that causes insufficient blood supply to the brain.

4. Situational syncope: often occurs after specific triggering factors, such as coughing (cough syncope), sneezing, gastrointestinal irritation (swallowing, defecation, abdominal pain), urination (urination syncope), after exercise, after meals, glossopharyngeal neuralgia, etc.

2. Cardiac syncope. This is the second most common cause of syncope, with the highest risk and poor prognosis. The root cause lies in "arrhythmia" and "cardiovascular disease".

1. Arrhythmia: Arrhythmia can cause hemodynamic disorders, leading to a significant decrease in cardiac output and cerebral blood flow.

2. Cardiovascular disease: Since cardiovascular disease cannot meet the body's blood circulation needs, it will lead to sudden unconsciousness. The main causes include: acute massive myocardial infarction combined with cardiogenic shock, aortic stenosis, pulmonary hypertension, and pulmonary embolism.

3. Brain-induced syncope. 1. Transient ischemic attack (also known as "mini-stroke"), especially vertebral-basilar artery system lesions, is often accompanied by symptoms such as dizziness, diplopia, hemiplegia, deep sensory impairment, and ataxia. 2. Epilepsy (commonly known as "epilepsy"). 3. Basilar artery migraine.

4. Other reasons. 1. Hypoglycemia reaction: It is more common in diabetic patients who have taken excessive oral hypoglycemic drugs, excessive insulin use, and patients with chronic liver disease.

2. Acute blood loss: Acute blood loss (such as gastrointestinal bleeding) is often accompanied by a significant drop in blood pressure and shock symptoms.

3. Severe anemia: often has a clear medical history and special manifestations of anemia.
