Do rectal polyps require surgery?

Rectal polyps are common diseases in anorectal medicine. They are tumors on the rectal mucosa and may be single or multiple. The treatment of rectal polyps is usually surgery, which is also the safest method. Drugs can play a controlling role, but surgery is the absolute factor.

1. Rectal polyps must be treated surgically. It is not easy to cure them by taking medicine. This type of surgery is a very small surgery, without any external trauma. It is just like a colonoscopy. It can be removed under the colonoscopy. There is little bleeding and people rarely feel pain. However, hospitalization is required for surgery and treatment. Generally, you can be discharged from the hospital three days after the operation. If you insist on not having surgery, the prognosis is generally not good.

2. The main clinical manifestations of rectal polyps include intermittent blood in the stool, blood stained in the stool, fresh blood, and small amount. If the polyp is located low, it may fall out of the anus during defecation, appearing red and cherry-shaped, and usually retracts on its own after defecation. If infection or ulcer occurs, rectal irritation symptoms such as mucus, blood in the stool and tenesmus may occur. The cause of polyps is that the rectum is full of polyps, which may cause diarrhea, bloody mucus stools, malnutrition, hypoproteinemia, anemia, etc. Whether or not to have surgery can only be determined after a doctor's examination. If the doctor tells you that surgery is necessary, it means that the patient's condition requires surgery.

3. Rectal polyps refer to protruding tumors on the inner wall of the rectum. They are generally soft and can be single or multiple. They include adenomatous childhood polyps, inflammatory polyps and polyposis, etc. The more common ones are rectal adenomas and juvenile polyps. Rectal polyps must be diagnosed through scientific examination and then surgical treatment. Drug treatment cannot cure rectal polyps. It is best to remove rectal polyps surgically because polyps have the possibility of becoming malignant. After surgery, a polyp specimen can be taken for pathological examination to determine its nature. Generally, polyps are benign, but a pathological examination will provide more peace of mind. Polyps can be removed under electronic colonoscopy, and this surgical method is generally used. It is less traumatic. Generally, after making good preparations before high-frequency polypectomy, the polyps are removed under high frequency. Do not eat or drink for 6 hours after polypectomy, and observe for abdominal pain and bloody stools. The operation is generally safe.
