What causes numbness and pain in the heel? Causes of heel numbness and pain

Heel pain may be caused by walking too much, or it may be lumbar heel pain. If the heel pain is caused by excessive walking, you can relieve it by soaking your feet. Choosing hot water to soak your feet can relieve the pain.

Several causes of heel pain

(1) Heel pain is caused by the heel bearing heavy weight for a long time, which causes pain in the heel area. The main reason why heel pain causes trouble to many people is that the painful area is in the area that we must use in our daily life activities - the sole of the foot. Therefore, this disease is also prone to occur in people who have different jobs or professions that require them to stand, walk, run, or jump for long periods of time every day, such as teachers, hairdressers, factory workers, soldiers, track and field and ball athletes, surgeons, etc.

(2) Lumbar heel pain: Many people suffer from heel pain due to aging. The cauda equina in the lumbar sacral area is deformed by the degeneration of the 4th and 5th lumbar vertebrae (i.e. bone hyperplasia), causing compression and "painful" pain, which leads to discomfort in the lower limbs. The initial symptom is pain in the entire bottom of the heel. In severe cases, it may be accompanied by coldness and numbness of half of the buttocks, numbness of the outer thigh and calf, etc.

(3) Traumatic heel pain: When walking, stepping on a hard object or hitting the ground too hard can cause tissue damage in the heel and cause pain.

(4) Bone spur type heel pain: When heel spurs (bone hyperplasia) are formed, repeated squeezing and stimulation can cause local inflammatory reactions and induce heel pain. Heel spurs are not a common cause of heel pain.

(5) Chronic heel pain: Heel pain may be caused by a variety of chronic diseases. It often occurs in obese men after middle age, and the disease may occur on one or both sides at the same time. Common causes include: heel fat pad inflammation or atrophy, plantar fasciitis, calcaneal bursitis, calcaneal hypertension, synovitis, Achilles tendon synovitis, calcaneal fat pad degeneration, etc.
