There are many nerves on the tongue. These nerves are more sensitive than nerves in other places and can sense various tastes from the outside world. However, if there is inflammation in the body, cysts will be found in the tongue. You can clearly feel lumps in your mouth and there will be pain when eating. This is mainly caused by the blockage of the ducts on the tongue. In daily life, you must drink more boiled water to excrete toxins from the body. Most sublingual cysts are extravasation cysts of the sublingual gland, which are mostly caused by the damage of the sublingual gland or duct, resulting in the leakage of mucus into the tissue space. They are common in young people and are also called "toad cysts" because of their appearance similar to the bulging pharyngeal pouch when a frog croaks. Sublingual cyst is located at the bottom of the mouth, on one side of the frenulum of the tongue. It is transparent and slightly bluish. The cyst wall is very thin and covered by the oral mucosa. Medical insurance can push the contents, which are colorless viscous liquid. Sublingual cysts are sometimes very large and can extend from under the frenulum of the tongue to the opposite side. They can also extend to the bottom of the mouth and protrude under the jaw. The most common way to cure sublingual cysts is to remove the sublingual gland without removing the cyst wall. For patients who are young or weak and cannot tolerate sublingual gland resection, the anterior wall of the cyst can be removed and its edges sutured to the oral mucosa (marsupial suture). It is mainly caused by obstruction of the duct of the sublingual gland or submandibular gland, or the formation of cysts due to extravasation of secretions after rupture of the duct. Causes include injury, salivary gland stones, and inflammatory irritation at the bottom of the mouth. The cyst is located at the floor of the mouth and is light blue in color. The most common cyst is 1 cm in diameter, but there are also significantly enlarged cysts. CO2 laser and Nd:YAG laser can be used to treat sublingual cysts. The key to treatment is to thoroughly deal with the cyst wall, such as removing it together with the salivary glands. The complexity of the operation varies depending on the size of the cyst. For cysts with a diameter of less than 1 cm, after local anesthesia, a laser knife is used to cut the cyst wall at the weakest point, and after the contents of the cavity are completely removed, the inner wall is irradiated with a laser. If the cavity diameter is large, directly suture with 1 to 2 stitches. Note that when expelling the contents of the cavity, the irradiation of the cyst wall should be thorough and even, but there should be no black carbonized tissue. Irradiation is stopped when the inner wall tissue solidifies and has no more secretory function. Larger cysts with a diameter of more than 2cm2 will affect the patient's tongue extension and food stirring functions. It is necessary to perform floor of mouth plastic surgery at the same time as the cyst is removed, that is, to restore the normal position and function of the tongue. Sublingual cysts are often infiltrated with inflammatory cells to varying degrees and may be accompanied by inflammatory reactions. Therefore, antibiotic treatment should be given for 2 weeks after laser surgery regardless of the size of the cyst. |
