What are the consequences of pulmonary embolism?

Pulmonary embolism includes pulmonary thromboembolism, amniotic fluid embolism, air embolism and fat embolism syndrome. Pulmonary embolism is the most common clinical condition. Its symptoms are similar to those of tuberculosis, often accompanied by cough, hemoptysis, chest pain, etc., and can cause breathing difficulties in severe cases. When patients have these symptoms, they should go to the hospital for treatment in time, otherwise the disease will be delayed.

What are the consequences of pulmonary embolism?

1. Unexplained dyspnea and shortness of breath, especially after activity, are the most common symptoms of pulmonary thromboembolism;

2. Chest pain, including pleuritic chest pain or angina-like pain;

3. Syncope, which may be the only or first symptom of pulmonary thromboembolism;

4. Restlessness, panic, or even a sense of impending death;

5. Coughing up blood, usually small amounts of blood, heavy blood is rare;

6. Cough, palpitations, etc. Different cases may present with different combinations of the above symptoms. Among them, dyspnea, chest pain and hemoptysis are the triad of pulmonary thromboembolism, but they are only seen in 20% of patients. Clinically, there are mainly auxiliary examinations such as D-dimer, arterial blood gas, electrocardiogram, and chest X-ray. The treatment methods for pulmonary thromboembolism include: general treatment and respiratory and circulatory support therapy; thrombolytic therapy (urokinase, streptokinase, etc.) and anticoagulant therapy (heparin, warfarin, etc.).
