Why do I have lower back pain in the middle of the night?

The quality of sleep is related to the health of the human body. A healthy body can improve the quality of sleep, while physical problems can make people toss and turn. For example, many people experience back pain in the second half of the night after a day of work. This situation has a great impact on sleep. So, what is the reason for back pain in the second half of the night?

1. Inflammatory diseases

Such as tuberculous spondylitis, suppurative spondylitis, etc., are not very common.

(1) Tuberculous spondylitis

The lumbar spine is most likely to be affected, and the earliest symptom is often back pain, which is localized and presents as dull, aching or sore pain that is more severe at night and after activity. Accompanying symptoms often include low-grade fever, night sweats, fatigue, and loss of appetite. Seek medical attention promptly to avoid serious spinal deformities, abscesses, and spinal cord compression.

(2) Pyogenic spondylitis is generally caused by severe systemic infection such as sepsis, trauma, lumbar surgery, etc. The pain in the waist and back is severe, with obvious pressure pain and buckling pain, often accompanied by fear of cold, chills and high fever.

2. Urinary system diseases

Such as nephritis, pyelonephritis, stones, tumors, kidney ptosis, hydronephrosis, etc. Nephritis presents as deep distension and pain in the lumbar triangular area; pyelonephritis presents with obvious low back pain and percussion pain. If renal abscess occurs, it is mostly unilateral low back pain with local tenderness; kidney stones mostly present with colic and severe percussion pain; low back pain caused by renal tumors is mostly dull pain or distension, and sometimes also colic.

3. Others

(1) Pelvic organ diseases: Prostate cancer and prostatitis in men, chronic adnexitis, cervicitis, uterine prolapse, dysmenorrhea and pelvic inflammatory disease in women can all cause lumbosacral pain.

(2) Spinal tumors often present as persistent and severe low back pain that is difficult to relieve with rest or medication.

(3) Thoracic and abdominal diseases such as perforated gastric and duodenal ulcers, acute pancreatitis, some pancreatic cancers and chronic enteritis; pleurisy, tuberculosis, lung cancer and other diseases can cause induced low back pain due to visceral pain irritating the skin.
