What are the causes of acute and chronic glomerulonephritis?

In order to effectively prevent and treat the occurrence of acute glomerulonephritis, it is important to understand the cause of the disease. Common causes include bacterial or viral infections. In addition, excessive fatigue and decreased immunity can also contribute to the occurrence of these diseases.

(1) Bacterial or viral infection: This is the most common cause, especially upper respiratory tract infection (common cold), asymptomatic bacteriuria, influenza, pharyngitis, tracheobronchitis, etc., which can aggravate the symptoms of chronic nephritis.

(2) Overwork: Overwork (such as heavy physical labor and strenuous exercise), driving at night, and even sexual intercourse can all aggravate chronic nephritis.

(3) Use of nephrotoxic drugs: amino drugs, gentamicin, kanamycin and streptomycin, etc.

(4) Stress state: The so-called stress state refers to the body's ability to withstand external overloads due to various reasons, such as sudden gastrointestinal bleeding, severe gastroenteritis, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, hypotension, anaphylactic shock, etc., which exceed the body's ability to withstand stress. It mainly refers to the adrenal cortex's emergency adjustment of the secretion of adrenal cortical hormones in order to cope with sudden stimulation. Various stress conditions can cause acute aggravation of chronic nephritis.

(5) Others: such as water and electrolyte imbalance, acid-base imbalance, etc., which can cause acute attacks of chronic nephritis.

Usually, due to the influence of the above-mentioned reasons, clinical manifestations similar to acute nephritis will appear on the same day or within a few days, such as proteinuria, worsening hematuria, edema, hypertension, oliguria, and even renal insufficiency.

If the aggravating factors can be removed in time and correct treatment is given, kidney function can return to normal. Therefore, clinically, we must pay attention to dealing with the various causes of acute exacerbation of chronic nephritis.
