What are the symptoms of increased muscle tension and can it be cured?

In recent years, the incidence of increased muscle tone has been gradually increasing. One of the dangers of increased muscle tone is that it may lead to cerebral palsy. Hypertonia may be cured with early treatment, but more often than not, treating hypertonia is a long process that requires the patient to actively cooperate and pay attention to daily home care.

Muscle tone is the basis for maintaining various body postures and normal movements, and manifests itself in many forms. When a person lies down to rest, the tension in the muscles of various parts of the body is called resting muscle tension. When the body stands, although there is no obvious muscle contraction, the front and back muscles of the body also maintain a certain tension to maintain the standing posture and body stability, which is called postural muscle tension. The tension of muscles during exercise is called motor muscle tension, which is an important factor in ensuring continuous and smooth muscle movement (without tremors, twitches, or spasms).

Increased muscle tension is mainly manifested

1. Motor dysfunction: The ability of motor self-control is poor. In severe cases, the hands cannot grasp things, the feet cannot walk, and some cannot even turn over, sit up, stand, chew and swallow normally.

2. Posture disorders: various abnormal postures and poor posture stability. If the baby still cannot hold the head upright at 3 months old, and is accustomed to leaning to one side, or shaking left and right, front and back, etc. It is not easy to open your fist when washing your hands.

3. Intellectual disability: About 1/4 of the children have normal intelligence, about 1/2 have mild or moderate intellectual disability, and about 1/4 have severe intellectual disability.

4. Language disorders: difficulty in language expression, unclear pronunciation or stuttering and other symptoms.

5. Visual and auditory impairment: The most common symptoms are esotropia and difficulty in distinguishing the rhythm of sounds.

6. Tooth development disorders: loose teeth, easy to break, oral and facial dysfunction, facial and tongue muscles sometimes spasm or uncoordinated contraction, difficulty chewing and swallowing, difficulty closing the mouth, and drooling, etc.

High muscle tone is very harmful to patients. Children are more irritable, startled by sounds, crying continuously, have difficulty falling asleep, have difficulty inserting their arms into sleeves when dressing, separating their legs when changing diapers, and opening their fists when bathing. When the lower limbs are at the corners of the bathtub or the water surface, the child's whole body immediately becomes stiff. Children with high muscle tone have their lower limbs extended, adducted and crossed, forming a scissor shape.

Treatment of increased muscle tension

The treatment of high muscle tone should be carried out in a multidisciplinary collaborative manner. Under the premise of correct diagnosis, active rehabilitation training should be carried out in the early stage. If the effect is poor or the condition recurs, surgical treatment should be carried out in time to repair degenerated and necrotic brain cells as early as possible, treat movement disorders through surgery, and carry out necessary rehabilitation training, so as to achieve considerable treatment results.
