How to treat toenail growing into flesh

If the toenail grows into the flesh, surgery is required. This situation is also very common in life. After surgical correction and proper care, recovery can be rapid. At the same time, when cutting your nails, you don’t need to cut them too short.

1. Surgical removal: mainly through local anesthesia, the diseased nail is surgically removed, so that part of the nail embedded in the flesh can be removed, but the operation is very painful. Although there is anesthesia, the postoperative recovery is slow and the trauma is large, so it will still be very painful, and it is easy to get infected during the recovery period, leading to recurrence of the disease.

2. Treat the nail roots to prevent new nails from growing. Through surgery, a small piece is cut off along the edge of the toenail, and then the germinal layer of the nail root is treated to stop it from continuously growing new nails. This can prevent the nail from bending and growing into the toe flesh due to excessive length and deformity. The treatment is simple and safe, with little pain, little trauma, no side effects, and good results.

3. Home prevention and treatment method: After trimming your nails each time, take a small amount of sterilized cotton and pad it under the part of the nail that protrudes from the toe flesh to separate it from the toe flesh. The cotton should be changed every day. If it cannot be padded, you can soak your feet in warm salt water. After the toenail is softened, gently lift the toenail and pad the cotton underneath.

Remind patients that if they feel pain when lifting their toenails, they should not force it and should consult a doctor to seek a solution. Experts remind: Toenails that grow into the flesh are extremely painful and affect the patient's normal walking. You must go to a regular dermatology hospital for diagnosis and treatment as soon as possible, find out the cause of the disease, and take symptomatic medication according to your symptoms and condition and follow the doctor's orders. Do not diagnose and treat selfishly, so as to avoid improper methods and worsening of the condition.
