What is the cause of burning sensation in the urethra? It turns out this is what causes it

Burning in the urethra is a condition that has occurred in many men and women today, but what exactly causes burning in the urethra? Most people don't quite understand this. In fact, the condition of burning sensation at the urethral opening can be divided into two types according to the different pathogens: one is nonspecific urethritis and the other is specific urethritis.

1. According to the different pathogenic bacteria, they can be divided into

① Non-specific urethritis: the most common pathogens are Escherichia coli, Streptococcus and Staphylococcus.

② Specific urethritis, also known as gonorrheal urethritis.

2. Common causes of urethritis are as follows

①Urethra injury

Damage to the urethral mucosa can destroy the protective function of the urethral mucosa and cause bacterial infection.

② Foreign body in the urethra

Foreign objects introduced from outside or stones in the urethra can cause urinary tract infection if the urination is stopped for a long time.

③Urethra obstruction

Such as stenosis of the foreskin opening, stenosis of the external urethral opening, urethral stenosis, posterior urethral valve, urethral tumor, female hymen umbrella, fusion of urethral opening and hymen, etc., due to poor urination, urine accumulates in the urethra and may cause secondary urethral infection.

④ Inflammation of adjacent organs

For example, prostatitis, seminal vesiculitis, vaginitis or cervicitis can spread to the urethra, which is often a stubborn disease of chronic urethritis.

⑤Often related to married life

Unclean sexual intercourse can easily lead to urinary tract infection.

3. Diagnostic criteria for urethral burning sensation

Frequent urination, burning pain during urination, and blood in the urine. In the acute phase, men may have urethral secretions, which are mucous at first and then have a lot of purulent secretions; women have less secretions. When it becomes chronic, it manifests as urethral stinging and discomfort during urination, and urethral secretions decrease and become a thin, serous fluid. During an acute attack, there is dull pain in the suprapubic area and perineum, and the urethral opening may become red and have discharge.

In addition to medical history and physical signs, the diagnosis of urethritis requires urethral secretion smear examination or bacterial and mycoplasma culture to identify the pathogenic bacteria. The diagnosis of urethritis is not difficult, but attention should be paid to the diagnosis and treatment of the primary disease and related diseases. If the male patient has no urethral secretions, the three-cup test should be performed (i.e. the first cup of urine is turbid with a large number of pus cells and white blood cells in the case of pre-urethritis, and the second and third cups are clear.

In posterior urethritis, the first and third cups are turbid with a large number of pus cells and white blood cells, while the second cup is clear). During the acute phase, it is forbidden to use instruments to examine the urethra. Chronic urethritis requires urethrocystoscopy to clarify the cause of the disease. Sometimes a metal urethral bougie can be used to test for stenosis in the urethra, and urethrography can be performed if necessary.
