What to do if you have a lumbar muscle strain

What to do if you have a lumbar muscle strain

When the waist muscles are strained, it is recommended to apply cold compress within a few minutes, because this can avoid the expansion of local blood vessels and aggravate the symptoms of edema and bleeding. Also, you should pay attention to rest after being strained and not exercise.

1. If you have just sprained your ankle, you need to apply cold compress. If the sprain is within a few minutes or no more than ten minutes, immediately apply cold compress with an ice pack or a cool, wet towel. This can prevent local vasodilation, bleeding, and increased edema. It has the effect of reducing swelling and relieving pain. After half an hour, the cold compress will end and the next treatment method will begin.

2. While applying cold compress, you must rest, which can relieve the symptoms of lumbar sprain. After spraining your waist, you should stop exercising immediately to allow the injured muscles to rest to avoid further damage, which may lead to chronic lumbar muscle strain and lumbar disc herniation. The main method of rest is to rest in bed, and you should sleep on a flat bed instead of a very thick mattress.

3. After you have rested for half an hour, you should get a massage. You can do a simple massage at home. Rub and massage the sprained waist with your palms, and gently beat it. Press the painful points with your elbows for a few minutes. The painful points are pressing the waist with your fingers. The most painful place is the painful point, which is called Ashi point in medicine.

4. After the massage, you can apply medicine for injuries and sprains. Commonly used ones include safflower oil, anti-edema and analgesic tincture, Yunnan Baiyao spray, etc.

5. You can also take some blood-activating and pain-relieving medicines, such as Dieda Pills, Panax Notoginseng Injury Tablets, etc. It is best to go to a medical institution to ask a doctor to prescribe the medicine, or you can buy some yourself at a pharmacy. It is best not to take antibiotics or anti-inflammatory drugs.

6. 24 hours after the sprain, local treatment can be applied with hot compress, massage, fire-sucking therapy, etc., or a cloth wrapped with hot salt can be applied to the affected area, or the injured muscles of the waist and back can be evenly tapped with the fingertips, palm edges or half-clenched fists. This helps to promote blood circulation and remove blood stasis.

7. For less serious lumbar muscle strains, the condition will be basically stable after the above treatment. At this time, you can perform hot compresses, physical therapy, or take some blood-activating and blood-stasis-removing drugs or use lumbar Babu patches to accelerate the recovery of sprained muscles.
