What to do with contact bleeding caused by cervical erosion? This is what causes it

When contact bleeding occurs in cervical erosion, it means that the cervical erosion has reached moderate or severe stage, the erosion surface is deep and wide, and there is also an increase in leucorrhea. There are two treatment methods for this situation. One is drug treatment, which can be used for local application of antibiotics, such as metronidazole, sulfonamides, furacillin, etc.; the other is physical therapy, and commonly used methods include electric ironing, laser therapy, and cryotherapy.

1. What is contact bleeding caused by cervical erosion?

Contact bleeding from cervical erosion refers to a small amount of vaginal bleeding after sexual intercourse or during a gynecological examination. The bleeding mainly occurs in the vaginal part of the cervix. A normal vaginal part of the cervix will not bleed due to sexual intercourse or a gynecological examination. Therefore, the occurrence of contact bleeding indicates that a lesion has occurred.

When contact bleeding occurs due to cervical erosion, it means that the cervical erosion has reached moderate or severe stage, the erosion surface is deep and wide, and there is also an increase in leucorrhea. However, the bloody leucorrhea and bleeding after sexual intercourse will gradually worsen. Once contact bleeding occurs, the possibility of cervical erosion, cervical polyps, and even cervical cancer should be considered. Seek medical attention as soon as possible, especially postmenopausal women should pay more attention to this phenomenon.

Contact bleeding from cervical erosion may indicate the possibility of cancer. When cancer cells are confined to the epithelial layer and have not broken through the basement membrane, the surface of the cervix is smooth or eroded, and contact bleeding generally does not occur. When cancer cells break through the basement membrane and gradually grow and infiltrate into the stroma, a rougher granular erosion surface will form around the external os of the cervix, and irregular ulcer surfaces will appear, so contact bleeding may occur.

2. Treatment of cervical erosion

(1) Drug treatment: suitable for patients with smaller erosion area and shallower inflammatory infiltration. Antibiotics can be used for local application, such as metronidazole, sulfonamides, furazolidone, etc. Traditional Chinese medicine is widely used in the clinical treatment of cervical erosion, and the effect is also good. Some proven prescriptions and formulas are often selected, processed into powders or suppositories, placed on cotton balls, and applied to the eroded surface. Generally, the medicine is applied twice a week. During the treatment, there will be more yellow vaginal discharge, but there should be no odor. Treatment usually starts after the menstruation is over, and the medicine is applied continuously for one month and discontinued during the menstrual period.

(2) Physical therapy: It is a widely used treatment method with the advantages of short treatment course and good efficacy. It is suitable for patients with larger erosion area and deeper inflammatory infiltration. Commonly used methods include electric ironing, laser therapy, and cryotherapy. Electric ironing should be performed within 3 to 7 days after the menstruation is over. During treatment, place the iron head in contact with the eroded surface and apply slight pressure, moving it from the inside to the outside and back and forth until it slightly exceeds the eroded surface. After the operation, 1% gentian violet is applied to the wound. The patient will have heavy vaginal discharge within 2 to 3 days and a small amount of vaginal bleeding within 2 weeks. After 2 to 3 weeks, the wound will shed its scab and the squamous epithelium will begin to repair. Laser treatment uses laser to carbonize and scab the eroded tissue. The scab will fall off about 3 weeks after the operation, and new squamous epithelium will grow on the wound surface. There is also a lot of vaginal discharge after laser treatment.
