Can amblyopia be cured?

Amblyopia can be treated, especially for children. When parents discover symptoms of amblyopia in time, they should take their children to an ophthalmology hospital for a more comprehensive examination, or wear glasses for correction.

1. Preschool physical examination: Most children, especially those who grew up in kindergarten, can recognize the eye chart after simple vision training at the age of 3. Kindergartens with the conditions should conduct a census screening of children's vision every year. Parents can also buy a standard eye chart, hang it on a well-lit wall, and let their children identify it from 5 meters away. During the examination, you must cover each eye separately and do not examine both eyes at the same time to prevent monocular amblyopia from being missed. Repeat the examination carefully several times. If the vision of one eye is less than 0.8 after multiple examinations, you need to take your child to the hospital for further examination. It is generally believed that the examination should be carried out no later than 4 years old.

2. Discover abnormal signs early: Children with amblyopia often have other symptoms besides poor vision, such as strabismus, tilting the head when looking at objects, squinting or looking very close, etc. Once a child is found to have strabismus, he or she should be taken to the hospital's ophthalmology department for examination and diagnosis as soon as possible, because about 1/2 of strabismus is combined with amblyopia. The other abnormal phenomena mentioned above should also be taken seriously and noticed, and you should go to the hospital's ophthalmology department to check whether they are caused by eye diseases.

3. Cover test: In addition, for infants and young children who cannot cooperate with vision tests, a cover test can be performed to roughly understand the vision of both eyes: intentionally cover one eye and let the child see things with one eye. If the child is very quiet but cries and makes a fuss when the other eye is covered, or tears off the cover, then it indicates that the vision of the uncovered eye is very poor, and you should go to the hospital for examination as soon as possible.

4. You can also use a visual acuity and amblyopia treatment device. The visual acuity and amblyopia treatment device is effective for children with amblyopia, because the treatment of amblyopia can be regarded as a kind of "visual atrophy" or "sleeping visual cells". More severe amblyopia must be treated with a children's amblyopia treatment device to exercise the "atrophied" vision or wake up the "sleeping" visual cells before it can be cured.
