It may be that the pathological changes of facial nerve demyelination caused by facial neuritis fail to return to normal after treatment, and partial demyelination still exists, making the electrical conduction of the facial nerve susceptible to generalization. Or facial neuritis may involve the nerve nuclei in the brainstem, forming similar epileptic lesions and producing paroxysmal twitching of the facial muscles. 4. Spasms of the facial muscles on the affected side may occur after trauma, tumor or surgery. This may be due to a short circuit between the facial nerve and other cranial nerves during its recovery process. When other nerves are excited, twitching of the facial muscles on one side may also occur. 5.
