How to treat endometrial cancer

How to treat endometrial cancer

As we all know, no matter what kind of cancer it is, if the patient cannot receive treatment as soon as possible after contracting it, it will threaten his or her life. So endometrial cancer is no exception. In recent years, more and more female friends have suffered from this disease. So after suffering from this disease, what are the more effective treatment measures for women to recover their health as soon as possible?

Treatment of endometrial cancer:

Radiation therapy:

Adenocarcinoma is not very sensitive to radiotherapy, and radiotherapy alone is not effective. However, for elderly patients or those with severe medical diseases who cannot receive surgical treatment or are contraindicated for surgery, radiotherapy is still a treatment with a certain degree of efficacy. Radiotherapy includes intracavitary and extracorporeal radiotherapy. Extracorporeal radiotherapy can be treated individually according to the primary lesion and the extent of infiltration, such as paracervical or pelvic lymph node metastasis. The treatment measures for endometrial cancer can be based on preoperative radiotherapy for cervical cancer.

Radiotherapy plus surgery:

The combination of radiotherapy and surgery is a treatment measure for endometrial cancer that has been controversial over the years and has not yet been completely resolved. Some scholars believe that preoperative radiotherapy can improve the 5-year survival rate, while others hold a negative opinion. For patients with cancer that has deeply infiltrated the muscle layer and poorly differentiated cells, intracavitary radiotherapy should be used before surgery, and external irradiation should also be used after surgery.

Common treatments for endometrial cancer include:

1. Radiation therapy

It is a commonly used treatment for endometrial cancer. There is still controversy about the effect and application of radiotherapy. However, it is generally believed that for stage I grade I, without myometrial invasion, simple surgery is sufficient. For stage I poorly differentiated cancer (grade II and III), myometrial invasion >1/2, lymph node metastasis and stage II endometrial cancer, preoperative intracavitary radium therapy is currently used followed by total hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy and postoperative auxiliary external irradiation.

2. Surgical treatment

At present, there is a relatively consistent opinion that most stage I and II endometrial cancers can be cured by surgery, which is a good treatment for endometrial cancer. For stage Ia G1 cancer, it can be cured by total hysterectomy plus bilateral adnexectomy. For stage I poorly differentiated cancer (G2 and G3), total hysterectomy plus bilateral adnexectomy combined with radiotherapy is more effective than surgery alone. When the diameter of the uterine cavity is >10cm, this combination of therapy is also appropriate.

3. Hormones and chemotherapy

Progesterone can transform abnormally proliferative endometrium into secretory or atrophic endometrium, which can lead to atrophy and reversal of endometrial adenomatous hyperplasia or adenoma. About 1/3 of patients with advanced or recurrent endometrial cancer respond to progesterone preparations, especially those with lung metastasis, with about 35% of patients showing significant responses. However, it is not effective for recurrent or persistent lesions in the pelvic cavity. This is also a commonly used treatment for endometrial cancer.

The expert explained to us the current medical treatments for endometrial cancer, which mainly include surgery, radiotherapy, hormones and chemotherapy. Patients should note that no matter which method is used to treat themselves, they should also take good care of this disease in their lives. Only in this way can they recover their health and avoid the possibility of recurrence.
