What causes back muscle spasms

What causes back muscle spasms

The occurrence of back muscle spasms may be affected by many factors, such as common physical fatigue, the impact and change of the normal physiological function of the back muscles, or electrolyte imbalance in the body, and cold stimulation, all of which may cause back muscle spasms.

1. Fatigue

When the body is tired, the normal physiological function of the back muscles will change. At this time, a large amount of lactic acid will accumulate in the muscles, and the lactic acid will constantly stimulate the muscles and cause spasms.

2. Electrolyte imbalance

Due to excessive sweating during exercise, a large amount of electrolytes will be lost. The main components of sweat are water and salt. Salt is related to muscle contraction. Excessive salt loss can excite the muscles in the back or other parts of the body and cause cramps.

3. Cold stimulation

In cold climates, such as when swimming and being exposed to cold water, especially if warm-up exercises are not done well, cramps are likely to occur. The main reason is that the muscles become more excitable due to the cold.

4. There is a vague numbness and discomfort in the back: There is a vague numbness and discomfort in the back, which is considered to be caused by neuralgia. Pain is one of the common symptoms in neurology. This type of pain refers to the pain felt without external stimulation, also known as spontaneous pain. There are many types of spontaneous pain, which can be divided into peripheral neuralgia and central neuralgia according to the location of the lesion.

5. Back pain: Mainly radiating pain, soreness, squeezing pain, cough pain, pulling pain, etc. in the waist, back, shoulders and legs. If it is mild, it will affect normal life, and if it is severe, it will damage health and even lead to loss of ability to work.

6. The onset is usually sudden pain in the lower back when stretching or twisting the back. You can continue to exercise at first. But after 2-3 hours, muscle bleeding will cause the tendon to become stiff and unable to move.

7. Spasms usually cause severe pain, and any movement will make the pain worse. Patients usually prefer to lie still, curled up with their knees hugged, and their spine flexed.
