Patients can receive speech therapy, and generally about 50% of patients can see significant improvement. However, for some patients whose vocal cord atrophy leads to obvious glottal atresia, they can be advised to undergo some vocal cord medialization surgery. There are two types of vocal cord medialization surgery, one is autologous fat filling surgery, and the other is the so-called thyroid cartilage plasty. Autologous fat filling surgery is generally easier for patients to accept, because it usually takes some fat from under the navel and injects it into the vocal cords, so there is no scar on the outside of the patient's neck. Thyroid cartilage plasty refers to drawing a scar of about three centimeters on the thyroid cartilage of the patient's neck and performing a medialization surgery on the thyroid cartilage under the neck, so it is generally less likely to be accepted by patients. For a patient with vocal cord atrophy and vocal cord aging, the patient will be advised to use autologous fat injection as the main surgery for the first time. If the patient absorbs the fat after the injection, it is recommended to inject fat again or recommend the patient to undergo thyroid cartilage plasty surgery.
