How long does it take to measure with a thermometer? Do you really know how to use a thermometer?

Thermometer is a necessity in daily life. We always use it when we occasionally catch a cold or have a fever. However, most people do not know how long a thermometer should be used to measure temperature. Some people even think that the longer the measurement time, the better. In fact, this idea is wrong. Generally, a mercury thermometer takes 5-10 minutes to measure, while an ear thermometer only takes a few seconds.

How long should the thermometer be used?

The time required for measurement varies for different thermometers. The measuring time of a general mercury thermometer is 5 to 10 minutes; the use time of an electronic thermometer is 1 minute; and the use time of an ear thermometer is only a few seconds.

How to use the thermometer

The thermometers sold on the market are mainly mercury thermometers, electronic thermometers and infrared ear thermometers. Next, we will introduce three ways to use a thermometer.

1. How to use a mercury thermometer: If the mercury thermometer is not used by yourself, wipe it with alcohol cotton (alcohol-free cotton can be washed with cold water) and then wipe it dry before measuring. Shake the mercury in a traditional mercury thermometer to below 35 degrees. Place the mercury thermometer under the armpit and clamp it tightly. Note that the mercury should be in the middle of the armpit. Keep your arm clamped tightly and do not walk. After measuring, take out the mercury thermometer to check the result and then clean it.

2. How to use the electronic thermometer: The electronic thermometer can measure ear temperature and forehead temperature. The switch between ear temperature and forehead temperature measurement can be automatically switched by removing or covering the head cover. How to use an electronic thermometer to measure ear temperature - remove the head cover, press the scan button to start, insert the measuring probe into the ear canal, press the scan button once, and when you hear a "whoosh" sound, the measurement is complete. How to use an electronic thermometer to measure forehead temperature - put on the head cover, press the scan button to start, place the measuring probe flat on one temple, press and hold the scan button, and move it along the forehead to the other temple. After hearing a "beep" sound, the measurement is completed.

3. How to use the infrared ear thermometer: To avoid the accuracy of the ear thermometer being affected by an external overly cold or overheated environment, the ear thermometer must be placed in a normal environment for at least 30 minutes before use to avoid incorrect measurement results. The subject should be left at room temperature for at least 20 minutes to allow body temperature to equilibrate. Avoid getting ears wet before use and keep ears clean. Accurate temperature can only be measured when there is no obstruction or excessive earwax accumulation in the ear. After strenuous exercise, you should rest for at least 30 minutes before measuring. Please do not measure ear temperature when you just wake up, because the temperature of the ear that is pressed will be higher than normal body temperature. Usually the temperature measured between the left ear and the right ear will be slightly different, so it is recommended to measure the body temperature in the same ear. When performing repeated measurements, please remove the probe head between each measurement and rest for at least 5 seconds before taking the next measurement to obtain the most accurate measurement results. The normal measurement value is about 35.5℃~37.8℃. Users should measure their body temperature more often to understand their healthy temperature. If there is any abnormality, pay attention to physical changes or consult your doctor. After each measurement, the detection head of the TRULY infrared ear thermometer needs to be cleaned with alcohol to prevent earwax blockage from affecting the measurement results, so as to ensure the accuracy of the next measurement.
