The dangers of double eyelid surgery, these must be paid attention to

It is understandable that people get double eyelid surgery to make themselves more beautiful, but the surgery has risks. If the hematoma is severe, the incision needs to be opened to stop bleeding or drain the blood. If the eyelid becomes red, swollen, hot and painful, infection should be considered and must be treated correctly.

1. Disadvantages of double eyelid surgery

1. Mild hematoma may disappear on its own, but severe hematoma or progressive hematoma requires opening an incision to stop bleeding or drain.

2. After the eyelid tissue is traumatized by surgery, reactive edema will occur between cells. Eyelid edema is normal and there is no need to worry. Pressure bandages and cold compresses can help alleviate the above phenomenon, but if the swelling is severe and continues to progress, you should have a check-up in time.

3. Although the incision and tissue wound have been sutured, there is still a small amount of bleeding. You can use cold compresses (ice cubes, cool towels), pressure bandages with elastic bandages, etc. At the same time, be careful not to lower your head excessively, open or close your eyes forcefully, etc.

4. If the scars are significantly caused by infection or physical condition, local medication, such as steroid injections, may be used.

5. If redness, swelling, heat and pain appear on the upper eyelid, infection should be considered and effective antibiotics should be used.

2. Precautions for double eyelid surgery

1. Postoperative pressure bandage: After the operation, the upper eyelid will be covered with a gauze strip. The doctor will ask you to wait for half an hour before leaving. The purpose is to prevent bleeding. Come to the hospital on the second day after the operation to remove the gauze from the eye. Do not remove it by yourself, because the blood stains and gauze of the incision are often stuck together, and forcibly tearing it off will tear the eye wound.

2. Take oral antibiotics for 3-5 days to prevent infection.

3. There will be some pain in the wound on the day of operation, but it will gradually ease over time. Patients should not rush to take painkillers, because aspirin-like drugs will aggravate wound bleeding. Avoiding the abuse of drugs is a particularly important point in the precautions for double eyelid surgery. 4. Ensure the cleanliness of the surgical site and avoid getting the surgical site wet within 7 days after the operation; apply erythromycin eye ointment on the incision once a day with a sterile cotton swab, wear sunglasses when going out to avoid sunlight irritation to the wound and prevent scar hyperplasia. Patients with enlarged canthiform eyes should use antibiotic eye drops in the corners of the eyes several times a day. If there is secretion from the corners of the eyes, use a sterile cotton swab dipped in eye drops and gently wipe away the secretion from the corners of the eyes.

5. Avoid eating spicy food and seafood;

6. During the recovery period, pay attention to strengthening the exercise of the eye muscles. Only by continuously strengthening the exercise of opening your eyes wide can you promote blood circulation in the eye muscles and surrounding tissues, reduce and gradually eliminate swelling in the surgical area, and promote the early absorption of surgical blood stasis.

7. Strictly follow the doctor’s instructions on taking medication and going for follow-up visits.

8. For patients who have undergone blepharoplasty, the stitches should be removed 5 to 7 days after the operation. Sometimes after the stitches are removed, there will be tiny thread ends left in the wound. Over time, the thread ends will slowly push out or be absorbed by themselves.

9. During the recovery period, you should rest in a quiet and comfortable environment, and the indoor air should be fresh and circulated to maintain a certain temperature.

10. Dietary considerations for double eyelid surgery include increasing protein intake and eating more fruits and fresh vegetables.

11. Do not watch TV or read newspapers within one week after the operation. It is best to rest in bed in a semi-recumbent position to avoid excessive eye fatigue or low head position which may aggravate wound swelling.
