What are the dangers of high eosinophil count

Eosinophils are a type of white blood cell that contains eosinophilic granules, peroxidase and acid phosphatase. Of course, there are many dangers of high eosinophil counts, such as causing some diseases, like allergic diseases and parasitic diseases.

1. Allergic diseases:

In cases of bronchial asthma, drug allergy, urticaria, food allergy, angioedema, serum sickness, etc., the peripheral blood eosinophilia may reach more than 10%.

2. Parasitic diseases:

In diseases such as schistosomiasis, ascariasis, and hookworm disease, the number of eosinophils in the blood increases, often reaching 10% or more. Some patients with parasitic infections have a significant increase in eosinophils, with the total number of inverted white blood cells reaching tens of thousands, more than 90% of which are eosinophils, an eosinophilic leukemoid reaction.

3. Skin diseases:

In diseases such as eczema, exfoliative dermatitis, pemphigus, and psoriasis, a mild to moderate increase in peripheral blood eosinophils may be seen.

4. Blood diseases:

Such as chronic myeloid leukemia, eosinophilic leukemia, lymphoma, multiple myeloma, eosinophilic granuloma, etc., the peripheral blood eosinophils may increase to varying degrees, and some may be accompanied by an increase in immature eosinophils.

5. Certain malignant tumors:

Certain epithelial tumors such as lung cancer can cause an increase in eosinophils.

6. Certain infectious diseases:

In acute infectious diseases, eosinophils usually decrease, but scarlet fever can cause eosinophilia.

7. Others:

Rheumatic diseases, hypopituitarism, allergic interstitial nephritis, etc. are often accompanied by eosinophilia.
