What's wrong with the low eosinophil percentage?

Eosinophils are also a type of white blood cells. Many people don’t know much about eosinophils. Eosinophils also have a normal value. Many people don’t know why the eosinophil percentage is low. This may be due to excessively high concentrations of corticosteroids in the blood.

1. Increased concentration of corticosteroids in the blood

The number of eosinophils in the blood has obvious diurnal fluctuations, with a decrease in the early morning and an increase in the midnight. This cyclical change in cell number is related to the diurnal fluctuation in the amount of glucocorticoids released by the adrenal cortex. When the concentration of corticosteroids in the blood increases, the number of eosinophils decreases; when the concentration of corticosteroids decreases, the number of cells increases. Eosinophils contain large, oval eosinophilic granules in their cytoplasm. This type of white blood cell also has phagocytic function.

2. Significance

A low percentage of alkaliphils is meaningless, as there are few of them to begin with, and the normal value is 0-1%. The normal percentage of eosinophils is 0.5-5%. Eosinophilia can be primary or secondary to an underlying disease. In the United States, allergic/atopic diseases are the most common causes, with respiratory and skin diseases being more common. Eosinophilic drug reactions may be asymptomatic, or have a variety of symptoms such as interstitial nephritis, serum sickness, cholestatic jaundice, allergic vasculitis, and immunoblastic lymphadenopathy. There is nothing wrong with a simple low percentage of eosinophils, as it just means that the distribution of the cells is different. This does not require treatment, so don't worry, it will have no impact.

3. Hormones

A slight decrease in eosinophils is more common in long-term use of hormones and in the acute phase of certain infectious diseases, but a significant decrease in eosinophils indicates a serious condition.
