The harm caused by thyroid nodules is relatively large. They can easily cause infertility problems. They may also lead to muscle atrophy, or cause patients to have difficulty breathing, hoarseness, and other adverse hazards and effects. 1. Infertility The thyroid gland is an endocrine organ in the human body. It controls the rate at which energy is used, produces protein, and regulates the body's sensitivity to other hormones. When thyroid nodules appear, the body's thyroid function will gradually become impaired, causing the body's endocrine system to become imbalanced. 2. It will eventually lead to menstrual disorders, amenorrhea, decreased libido in women, impotence, premature ejaculation and other symptoms in men, and ultimately lead to infertility. 3. Muscle atrophy Patients with thyroid nodules will experience symptoms of muscle atrophy, relaxation, and weakness, as well as subtle tremors, decreased reflex activity, and shortened reflex time. 4. It mainly manifests itself in hand shaking when picking up food or threading a needle, and crooked handwriting. As thyroid nodules continue to grow, emotional changes will cause nodules to appear on the neck, which will seriously affect personal appearance, especially for women who love beauty. If things go on like this for a long time, the patient will gradually develop emotional changes such as depression, irritability, insomnia and nightmares. 5. Difficulty breathing: When the thyroid nodule disease worsens, it may compress one side of the organ, causing the trachea to shift or bend to the other side; if both sides of the trachea are compressed, symptoms of difficulty breathing will appear. Over time, the trachea begins to soften, eventually leading to suffocation. 6. Cyanosis of the face: When thyroid nodules compress the large veins in the neck, it will cause difficulty in blood return to the head and neck, especially when the thyroid nodules are located behind the sternum. This will cause the patient's face to become cyanotic and swollen, and the superficial veins in the patient's neck and chest will be significantly dilated. 7. Hoarseness: The gradual enlargement of thyroid nodules will compress the recurrent laryngeal nerve, causing vocal cord paralysis and hoarseness. In severe cases, it will compress the sympathetic nerve chain and cause a syndrome such as smaller palpebral fissures, constricted pupils, and hypohidrosis on the ipsilateral face (Homer syndrome). Calcification of thyroid nodules: Calcification of thyroid nodules is closely related to thyroid cancer. Sand-like calcification of thyroid nodules is almost always a malignant thyroid tumor, and is often a characteristic manifestation of papillary thyroid cancer. |
