How common is brain tumor?

The incidence of brain tumors is actually quite high nowadays, so everyone needs to pay attention and actively prevent these diseases. Because brain tumors can occur at any age, scientific prevention is needed to reduce the occurrence of these diseases.

1. According to a survey of urban residents, the prevalence of intracranial tumors is 32/100,000, and a global statistic is 40/100,000. This shows that the incidence of intracranial tumors is not low and deserves great attention. In terms of the incidence of systemic tumors, brain tumors rank fifth (6.31%), only lower than stomach, uterine, breast, and esophageal tumors. In adults, brain tumors account for 2% of all tumors in the body. In children, brain tumors account for a relatively large proportion of tumors in all parts of the body, accounting for 7% of all tumors in the body.

2. Brain tumors can occur at any age, but are more common in adults. The disease is less common in infants and young children and people over 60 years old. Generally, there is no significant difference in the incidence of the disease and gender, but some individual tumors are related to gender. The tumors are more likely to occur above the tentorium than infra the tentorium, with the incidence ratio of the two being approximately 3:1. Supratentorial brain tumors are mostly located in the frontal lobe and temporal lobe, while infratentorial ones are mostly seen in the cerebellar hemispheres and vermis, the fourth ventricle, and the cerebellopontine angle.

3. Glioblastoma is the most common type of intracranial tumor, accounting for nearly half of all intracranial tumors. The most common ones are meningioma, pituitary adenoma and neurofibroma, while other types of tumors are less common.

4. The age of onset, common site and tumor type of brain tumors. For example, childhood brain tumors often occur in the infratentorial and midline areas of the brain. Common tumors include medulloblastoma, astrocytoma, ependymoma, craniopharyngioma and pineal tumor. Adult brain tumors are mostly found above the tentorium, with a few located below the tentorium. Common tumors include astrocytoma, meningioma, pituitary adenoma and acoustic neuroma. In the elderly, most tumors are located in the cerebral hemispheres, with glioblastoma multiforme, meningioma, metastatic tumors, etc. being the most common.
