In our lives, everyone likes to eat peaches, especially in summer, which is the season when peaches are ripe. In addition, peaches in summer taste very sweet. The peaches we often eat are hairy peaches and nectarines. The storage time of these two kinds of peaches is relatively short. They are seasonal fruits, so we must pay attention to keeping them fresh during storage. So how should peaches be kept fresh? 1. Cabinet storage The cupboard is where we often put vegetables and things, and we can also put fruits there. This is because the cupboard is clean and has relatively fewer bacteria. Just dry the washed peaches and put them in a clean place in the cupboard. They can generally be kept for three to seven days. 2. Refrigerate If you want to extend the shelf life of peaches, the storage temperature should be controlled at a constant temperature of 0℃ and the humidity at around 90%. In this way, peaches can be stored for about 20 days. However, the aroma and taste of peaches will be affected by long-term storage at low temperatures, so it is better to eat peaches as soon as possible. 3. Controlled atmosphere storage The shelf life of peaches can be extended to 2 months in an environment of 0℃, 2% oxygen and 5% carbon dioxide, and the loss of flavor can be reduced. They can usually be placed in a controlled atmosphere tent or controlled atmosphere bag. 4. Ice cellar storage There are ice cellars in northern regions. Peaches can be placed in the ice cellar, wrapped with a layer of insulating material, and the temperature maintained at 0~1℃. The shelf life can reach 1 month. Tips for storing peaches 1. Generally, late-ripening peaches and winter peaches are more resistant to storage, mid-ripening peaches are second, and early-ripening peaches are not resistant to storage. 2. The storage humidity of peaches is about 90%. The air humidity can be adjusted appropriately by sprinkling water and using an air humidifier. 3. For the ripening method of peaches, it is better to control the temperature at 20~25℃. They can be ripened in about 3 days. The faster the peaches ripen, the better the quality. Note: 1) Do not press or pinch the peach with your hands, but try to hold the peach as much as possible. Because peaches are juicy and easy to leave fingerprints 2) Peaches are mild fruits. Eating them can easily fill you up, but they will not harm your body. As the saying goes, "peaches will fill you up, while plums will hurt you." However, you should not eat too much of them. 3) Eat the ripe, soft, juicy peaches first, then eat the less ripe ones. 4) After a few days, some peaches will have black marks on their surface. It’s okay, just like when a banana is overripe, they are just ripe spots. But if you see mold or rot, you need to remove most of it. So peaches should be eaten as soon as possible. |
