What is the best way to treat lumbar myofasciitis?

Lumbar myofasciitis often occurs, so attention should be paid to its causes, symptoms, and effective treatments. The common damp and cold climate environment can easily cause this disease. Patients are advised to keep warm and use some sedatives.

1. Treatment

1. General treatment

Eliminate the cause of the disease, keep warm, apply local hot compresses, and prevent cold. Pay attention to rest during the acute phase.

2. Medication

Anti-inflammatory analgesics (such as indomethacin, ibuprofen, etc.), vitamins (vitamin E and B1 have certain therapeutic effects on primary myofasciitis).

3. Treatment with traditional Chinese medicine.

4. Others

Block therapy, acupuncture therapy, physical therapy, massage therapy.

2. Causes

A damp and cold climate is one of the most common causes. Dampness and coldness can cause vasoconstriction in the muscles of the waist and back, ischemia, and edema, leading to local fibrous fluid exudation and eventually fibrositis. Chronic strain is another important factor in the development of the disease. After the muscles and fascia of the waist and back are damaged, fibrosis changes occur, which puts the soft tissue in a state of high tension, resulting in tiny tearing injuries, and finally causing the fibrous tissue to increase and contract, squeezing the local capillaries and peripheral nerves and causing pain. Other causes include sitting in one posture for a long time, lack of corresponding activities, sitting in front of the computer for a long time, virus infection, and muscle allergy caused by rheumatism.

3. Clinical manifestations

The main symptoms are diffuse dull pain in the lower back, especially in the psoas muscles on both sides and above the iliac crest. Local pain, coolness, skin numbness, muscle cramps and movement disorders. The characteristics of the pain are: pain in the morning, lighter during the day, and heavier in the evening. Pain can be induced by long-term inactivity or excessive activity. The disease has a long course and is triggered by fatigue and climate change. During physical examination, there is an obvious localized tenderness point in the affected area, and touching this point can cause pain and radiation. Sometimes a nodule can be felt inside the muscle fascia, which is called fascial fat hernia.
